I got my car started today and didn't think to check trans fluid after my trans swap (oops) put it in drive to move it a little and have it has (got to about 4k) than let off thinking my trans was shot . I than put it in reverse and tried again, than back in drive (after real easing the parking brake thinking that was why) is my trans going to be shot? I'm going to go get trans fluid tomorrow and top it off., along with other odds and ends my baby needs if the trans isn't shot.

Edit: trans is just really low, I remember checking a while ago with the car off, so I know at least a little is in there.

Automatic Transmissions are hydraulically operated, meaning they operate from fluid pressure. I think without the fluid in there, nothing would have even moved to get damaged. The only part I can think of would be the tranny fluid pump if you ran it dry, might not be a good thing.

Just fill it up and you should be okay I think... you'll find out pretty quick anyway.

Yup.. fill it and find out if you hurt the pump. Most likely you are fine.

I think I either hurt the pump or the trans was already junk... I'm thinking about trying some anti slip. Does anyone have any preference for brands?

just fill it to the cold full line for now, then let it idle a bit. if you hear it whining like a p/s pump gone bad the trans pump got hurt, if you hear nothing, put it in gear and try it out.

oh, and keep checking the fluid level if its whining, your tc may have drained into the pan some and it also now needs to fill back up. as it fills the pan level will drop some more and of course need more fluid to stop the whine.

The only sound coming from the trans is a tapping kind of noise. I'll try to keep filling it, I filled the trans this morning and tried to move it around to no avail.... It will try to move but not very hard... Has anyone had any luck with anti slip before?
