Your torque converter might be the culprit. It sounds like its not locking up to me.
Check to see if the plastic clip on the shifter linkage broke off.
Its on the transmission below the EGR and next the crossover on the exhaust.
If the linkage is hooked up and fluid looks good.. are there any bubbles in the fluid? Bubbles indicate a bad channel plate gasket. Beyond that you may have broken a pump shaft or could be having a converter issue.. although converters don't typically go instantly.
Thanks for the info guys, how do it get access to it through the dash or underneath the car itself?
Most of the parts I'm talking about would be best serviced out of the car. Meaning transmission removal.
Hey,what would be to get to access that clip, from the inside by taking the shift cover off, or underneath the car?
Lift hood and look down at transmission. It's back by the firewall. Just follow the thick black shifter cable.
the shiftier linkage is on the trans, under the brake booster and stuff. has a plastic part that can break.
just like in that pic posted up there. the other end of that cable goes inside the car to the shiftier.
Thanks alot guys, I will look at it after work...what position should be in? or if nothing is broken or missing, what be next to check?
have some one shift the car for you while you watch the cable end on the tranny. you'll see it working if it works still, or see just a cable shoot out by its self if its broken.
one way to figure this out is to put the car in neutral then get out and try to push it, if it wont move its still in park, if it wont move and pushes back like it would in park. the cable broke off somewhere.
rock it in park first so you know how that feels, then put it in neutral and push it. your butt on the driver side door jam is more then enough to make the car roll. dont push it from the bumper, or the car may get away from you. unless you have a driver in the car. aka some one to hit the brakes for you if it moves.
I am able to move the car in neutral and it doesn't move in park
Nope no gear at all, which makes it so confusing, I drove home from work no slipping at all...next morning to goto work, would not move at all, other people say it is the transmission is gone, but i had no symptoms that it was going
if so, should I get the transmission rebuilt or buy a used one?
depends on your wallet. rebuilt will cost almost 2 grand, used around 400, then another 4 to 500 to swap it, unless your do swapping it yourself, then you get to save all that extra money.
Aww man... it sounds like it may, dat sux, But thanks for all the info, i will give you an update later on
worst comes to worst, your in bills back yard, he does repairs, and tranny swaps and so. shoot him a PM see if hes got the time to help you out. cars get towed to his house all to often lol
i made the trip from NJ to Bill's house for my tranny swap. worth every mile i drove to get there.
