Thread: shaking at 45 and 70 mph

On my 02 gt getting bad shaking at the listed speeds. We suspect bad cv axles. Question is should I do tierod? A few weeks ago did control arm and tie rod on passenger side as well as sway bar that was broke. Will be doing both cv axles and control arm on drivers side tomorrow. Had new front tires put on just after replacing passenger side parts a few weeks ago. Was hoping the tires were the problem but they were not. Also have new skf wheel bearings. Had an alignment done too. Am sure I will need another if I do driver side tierod. The tire place did not mention the tierod being bad though. But it is original. Just don't want to spend another 50 on an alignment if I dont have to

Tires were all balanced 3 weeks ago so I don't think that is it, bearings have less than 5k on them. Do not notice any noise just a lot of shaking at the wheel. Have not checked motor mounts but I do believe its the cv axle. We jacked up the drivers side and put it in gear and accelerated. And you could see the boot moving vigorously. Reving to about 3k made out feel like the car was going to fall apart. Did not check the other side because we figure we will just replace both axles. To check the mounts do I just inspect them with somebody moves from park to drive? I do notice a bit of a clunk when putting in gear but nothing horrible. The shake is most felt when at 45 and 70 while accelerating, if I just coast from 70 back down to 30 its nowhere near as bad as it is with a load being applied

Got the cv axles changed and it fixed almost all of the shaking. Think I might have a slightly warped rotor on the driver side. Had a caliper locked up for a day or 2 without knowing. Was able to take it to top speed 107 for the first time in a year without fear of a high speed come apart lol. And not I don't drive at those speeds, was just checking the steering. But now my steering wheel is cocked to about the 2 o'clock position but drives straight. Should I have the alignment done again to fix this or will it be ok as is? Just had the alignment done within a month ago, kinda sux to pay for it again. But I don't wanna mess up the new tires
