Hello ya'all... New to the forum as of today. Nice to meet everybody. I have a '99 Grand Prix GT Sedan (4 Door). I bought it new in 1999 and have never regretted the decision. As of yet, I have only had one real repair and that was a fuel pump. I had pretty consistently neglected to fill up until the fuel light came on so I have heard that the fuel pump issue was my fault. Other than that, it has ran perfect for the 180,000 miles that I have it. It is more comfortable, gets better fuel mileage, more power and needed fewer repairs than my daughters 5 Series BMW. Wanting to replace the door seals because it seems a little noisier than when new. Oh... changed the spark plugs for the first time a while back and my MPG's went DOWN more than 5 MPG's. Not sure what's going on there. Other than the spark plugs and tires, the car is as it came from the factory. Have resisted the aftermarket wheels, and bolt-on performance parts. Thinking about a ram air hood eventually, but only if the paint gets to a point that a repaint becomes necessary. Hey, if any of ya'all have pointers, suggestions, or just want to say hi, feel free.

    Thank you,
    Jim W.

welcome to the forums, glad to hear its been a good car. the bad gas mileage may be due to the type of spark plug you used. and just be warned about the inevetable LIM gaskets going bad. othere than that 180K miles with 1 owner is awesome!

Thanks Seachicken... never have been a believer of changing cars every few years. I figured that I have saved about $50K in car payments over my friends that tend to trade in pretty consistently, and they just have... a car to drive.

CTKGP09, I used whatever expensive platinum plug the parts guy was pushing. I thought platinum and more expensive would be better. Should have gone with OEM. Changing the rear plugs was definitely a chore. Removing the front motor mounts and putting it in gear and torquing the motor forward. Even then it wasn't easy. What would I look for with leaking LIM gasket? Oil leak? - thanks to both you and Seachicken for the responses.

Welcome to the forums, there's a lot of helpful info here in case you ever have problems! As far as the plugs go, it is true that these motors don't really enjoy platinum plugs, which is probably why you're getting worse MPGs. Iridium is the factory plug, and IIRC the AC Delco part number is 41-101. LIM gaskets are probably at the point of needing to be replaced, but you'd wanna check for leaks around the LIM valley by the valve covers, and on the passenger side of the LIM.
