I bought a gtp and finding alot of problems with the car i have decided to rebuild the motor because it has 150k miles and it has a blown head gasket so i was wanting to know if anyone knew about the cost it would be to do this.

Head gaskets are very very very ...did I say very rare. Typically it's a lower intake manifold gasket misdiagnosed.

Very few rebuild because the cost to rebuild is usually much more than another motor.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

more then its worth. fix the head gasket and let it live on. these engines can and do pass the 200,000 mile mark. lots of us in the well over 200,000 mile club.

    im at 225,000 my self.

ik these motors are tough but the only reason i think it is a head gasket is because i have oil in my radiator i took the cap off and there is brown muck in there.

when you look under the hood the oil is around the lower intake too

Oil in the radiator is either from the transmission or it's dexcool that wasn't maintained properly /allowed to sludge.

There's no pressure of oil to push into the coolant, the coolant is under 16psi of pressure.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I would pull the lower intake before coming to any conclusions of rebuilding, like the others are saying its a pretty bullet proof motor and the stock lower intake gaskets go bad allot which could allow oil into the coolant if they are leaking bad enough

if you think the head blew just because of brown snot, you need to check things over a bit more.

does it eat coolant? or push it out the over flow tank? coolant in the oil? done a compression test yet?

chances are your fine, dex coolant sludge's up and leaves brown snot like buggers on the cap and inside the rad. do a cooling system flush, switch to green.

How you fix this? Three easy steps
    1. Do a series of coolant flushes until you get the cooling system clean.
    2. Change the LIM gaskets and valve cover gaskets.
    3. Smile and drive your good running 3800

its just some snot left over from the dex.

if you have plastic lim gaskets, you should change them just because they are failing as we speak. look between the head and lim, under the valve cover lip, if you see black its plastic, silver is metal, and your all set if you see silver. metal gaskets are the up graded one's.
