:( I had to have it towed home because it would not even turn over... I had a (non-mechanic) friend take a look while I was trying to start it and he noticed it loked like the belt was not moving well and it seems it is the Supercharger part that is frozen... We released the tension on it and it started...Can it run without the supercharger? If not how hard and much $ to fix... Help:(

If it runs without the supercharger belt, take that belt off.
You can drive it without the supercharger belt, but don't go flooring it anytime.

If it's the coupler (the part with the belt on the supercharger) it's not too pricey... If you do it yourself.

Check to see which pulley is not allowing the supercharger belt to spin. That is what seems to be the problem.

Yes you can run it that way without an issue as long as you don't get really far into the throttle, like don't go romping on it.

I see you are from coon rapid, its not super close to me, but if you wanted to meet somewhere I can take a peek.

I had it towed to the dealership I bought it from last Dec in CR no warrenty or service contract but Im sure something like this will not be covered ... didn't know what else to do. I would really like to NOT leave it there...

We tried... (well sort of) to take off the belt . I didn't seem like it was gonna come off from below without getting under car? is that right?

take the belt off the sc, and drive it home. they will rape you. gm only sell rebuilt superchargers, from GM, so they cost a arm and a leg.

you can get a used gen 3 blower for 100 bucks. (or less) and a gasket for 12 more. then do it your self if need be.

chances are its not the sc, but a idler or tensioner pulley locked up. those run 20 bucks brand new. once the belt is off, spin all the pulleys, the only one that wont spin is the crank pulley, the big one at the bottom.

It comes off pretty easy, just use a socket wrench with a 15mm on the tensioner, slide the belt off and fish it out. You will have to reach down and un-loop it from the harmonic balancer.

This is a 97-03 motor, buts its like 95% the exact same as the 04+ supercharged engine.

put a 15 mm socket on a breaker bar, the tensioner will only move one way, move it, then slide the belt over the tensioner pulley, then slide it off the sc pulley, its tight, but will come off.

I'm really not sure, checking with the guy who was helping me. Car is not here with me but I can go check it if he don't call me back soon.

#3 pulley on that pic posted, is the tensioner you want to work on. you can also try to slide the belt off pulley #8 as well. but # 3 is smooth edged, so the belt slides over easier. i pull it towards the socket, it will only come 1/2 way off, and then hit the socket, but its enough so you can get another pulley off.

go throw 50 bucks out a window too while your at it..... do not cut it, it maybe good still.

they come off, its a snug fit.

Do not cut the belt that would be retarded and throwing money down the drain. Use a breaker bar if you don't have one its a great investment for around $12-$20+

Well.... unfortunately my friend who helped me earlier stopped off at the bar on the way home and wont be driving back over here to help My sister and I are heading out with a 15mm socket and ratchet... I WILL get it done! Thanks again, all of you! and I'll let you know how it turns out...

if you have a pipe that fits that ratchet, bring it, it will help a lot. you need a bit more then a 3/8 sockets leverage.

ahh and the drunk friend, cant have it all can ya lol

Well I got the belt off... yay! started it and it was really rough sounding, made some noises like cracking sounds from under the SC plastic housing idk what that was but it was not good, it stalled out and wouldn't start back up, I tried twice then said screw it... Now what something is broken inside the SC? sadness! :th_shakinghead2: shehateshermoms Taurus
