    Hi all, new here and have an AC problem. When the ac is turned on the ac clutch engages and almost instantly disengages and it keeps doing this every few seconds. Needless to say the ac does not blow cold air, pressure in system is ok, gage shows around 90-100psi.

    Time for a AC system check.

    If everything checks out at the place you go to, then recharge it.

    Most places run specials now because summer is right around the corner.

    Most likely low on freon. Add a can it will stay running longer.

    no dont just add a can.. that **** will lock ur compressor up. it that high side or low side pressure. hope its not low side. if its a low charge it wont engage at all. too high and it will do what yours is doing..

    I'm no expert but I'd bet money he is low on refrigerant.

    All the results talk about low refrigerant. Pretty cheap and easy to add a can to the low pressure side. The cans with the hoses already on them will only attach to the low pressure side.

    But hold on.

    The ac system is a sealed unit, but if its already low on R-134a and its only 4-5 years old, the freon has to have gone somewhere right?

    Normally they dont just get low. Its a 2.2ish lbs system and the compressor will still run with roughly 1 to 1.3 lbs of freon in there, so where did the other amount go?

    Personally, I'd take it somewhere and just have them do the simple AC check, then recharge it if everything is ok.

    It leaked out somewhere but if it's not under warranty why bother. Im not really a perfectionist, i don't care were it leaked. Had my car for 5 years. I've added 3 cans in 5 years. Pretty cheap fix $10 compared to replacing any ac components $300 and up.

    Is that low pressure side showing 90-100 psi? Sounds like you have to much pressure in there. I'd take it somewhere and have it vacuumed out and refilled to the right level and see if it still does the same thing. I replaced almost all my ac system for $5 then bought a vacuum pump and some R134a and it's been working for over a year now.

    yes its the low side thats reading around 90psi, if it is too high what could be causing it to be too high?

    Possibly a clogged orifice tube or something else clogged.
