I just bought a 2004 GTP Comp G tonight and I am absolutely amazed. I lurked on this site for a few days to help me make my decision. I am completely convinced that I bought the right car for me. I am 46 years old and live a very active lifestyle. I am a father of 3.....22 year old son that is in the Army and just got back from Afghanistan, an 18 year old son that will be more than jealous when he gets home tonight and a 5 year old daughter that was lucky enough to take my final test drive with me this afternoon. I have been married for almost 23 years and my wife supported my decision. I have been driving our Suzuki XL7 (can you say grocery getter) for almost six months since I traded in my '08 VW Jetta (boring....except it was a 5 speed) for the Nissan Titan my wife now drives. I commute 120 miles per day and I was getting to hate the Suzuki even though nothing is wrong with it. I constantly browse CraigsList (it's almost a hobby with me) and a few weeks ago, I searched for the keyword of "turbo"......browsed a few pages....nothing exciting.....then searched on "supercharged" and boom......my eyes were opened to the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. I didn't know much about them and was excited at the solution of a 4 door sedan with some punch and sporty appearance. Anyway, the rest is history. The car has just a tad over 97K miles on it. It was a one owner carfax certified vehicle with all maintenance done at the dealership it was bought at. I am truly amazed at how a 8 year old vehicle with over 97K miles on it can have zero squeeks or rattles.......and drive so tightly! I can't wait to start some mods....subtle at first.....so as not to alarm the wife. She has experienced this with me before but it is ususally motorcycles. Anyway, I am looking forward to participating in the forum and getting some information and opinions from some of you seasones members. I hope this pic link works like my motorcycle forums do.....

    Welcome boss.

Clean car and they are pretty quick cars for what they are. And I'm sure your son will be jealous haha.

If you do think about doing some mods, either exterior or engine wise, reading is your friend.

Yes i just joined yesterday and every problem ive posted on here has been responded to. Nice car by the way, im actually jealous. I just took a 2008 GTP for a drive an was in love though it was a pre-owned GM certified car with 45k miles and the cost was about 17k, way outta my league. It was hard not being able to get it but the price was way crazy.

    Miles: 170-XXX

I am curious if they are stock. The information I pulled-up online shows a different wheel for the '04 GTP Comp. Maybe an upgrade option????

Now before you get to modding... please read this http://www.grandprixforums.net/safel...car-17482.html

^^^ After you read it, read again , you can never have too much info and that is the best starting point we provide.

Keep in mind your 04+ is alot difference from our 97-03s but the differences are included.

Now after you do this, and you show off to the family. Snap some more pics and make a Members Rides thread and keep us updated on your plans and changes.

Nice car. Those wheels are stock - there were three options for Comp-G's. Just a heads-up: Unless the dealership upgraded your lower intake manifold gasket, keep an eye on that oil and coolant. When they start mixing and/or disappearing, it's time to replace the nylon with aluminum (GM started doing this in '06). I think people typically encounter the issue between 70k and 150k, so you're right in there.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Summer time bonding project... just do it to head off the potential problem.

Thanks SlowNA06........your information and timing is on target.......I let my wife drive my car yesterday as I needed her truck for work......she called me while I was on my way home saying that my car had overheated as she was pulling into our subdivision. I got up this morning and checked into the situation and at first I thought "broken thermostat or bad water pump" but upon further investigation, I noticed something strange. The temperature gauge had not even started to move when smoke started to come off of the engine (front side) and when I opened the oil filler cap.....smoke was coming out of there. My first thought was "oil pump" and then I remembered your post. With the lower intake manifold going bad and the mixing of oil and coolant......that would give me the symptoms I am experiencing right???? I know this is a technical issue but was hoping you (or somebody else with this experience) would see my response on this thread.
