Howdy all. I'm glad to find this site. Other GP sites seem moribund.![]()
At one, I can't get access to the "forums" though they claim to have them.
I've been a car nut since childhood. I suspect it set in prenatally.
My first car was a 1967 Pontiac Catalina 400 two door hardtop. I also had a '68 Executive four door and a '79 Parisienne, packing the mighty (not!) 305 if memory serves me. All were very good cars.
Now I'm looking for a GP GXP to supplement the stable of my wife's 2001 PT Cruiser and my 2007 Kia Spectra EX.
Looking back, it's interesting that the W V8s (I like to call them 327s, and @ 325 c.i. that's not far off...plus 327 tags are available through the GM parts system) didn't get more attention. The LaCrosse Super in particular seems to have been ignored, though it's probably a good potential collecter. I might even buy one.
When I think of the Grand Prix GXP, I think back to the GTOs of the 1960s. The dimensions and weight aren't far off, and in general it just reminds me of the days of yesteryear. So IMHO the GXP GPs are spiritual successors to the old Goats.
I'll ignore the 2-door vs. 4-door, FWD vs. RWD debates, for the most part. I like 4 doors myself, and I like FWD too. RWD has its place, but what is, is, regarding the platforms available to us.
There are few GXPs in my neck of the woods. I can't even find an example to test drive. I did test a GXP along with its supercharged 231 brother a couple of years ago.
I'll probably have to buy in the midwest: southern MI, northern OH or IN. There seem to be quite a few scattered from Minnesota to Ohio to Georgia.
I thought DeLorean, Wangers, and the other Poncho Pioneers did great work in the 1960s resurrecting the brand. Pontiac really was the Excitement Division then. I'm not above thinking Pontiac can be resurrected yet again.
