Hey how's everyone doing, hope all is well. I'm new here and second time owner of a GP. The first time I had one was back in '04. She was an '89 LE. Eight-teen years later and I just bought a '05 (12/04) Grand Prix Base on Tuesday.
She's a project car that has some issues and being a pain at the moment with the electricals. So, with all the head scratching I could do--I decided it would be best to seek help with those who know more about the Grand Prix than I do, I'm also looking forward to learning as much as I can from everyone.

So, here is my dilemma. When I bought the car the display would keep going off telling me, "Door ajar" on the pass, rear. The check engine light was on which is Evap. related. Fuel cap or Purge valve. The turn signal lights inside the car use to work properly for a day or so, however the outside lights work just fine. So as of yesterday Sept. 1st. Something went wrong. The "Charging System Failure" and "Service Vehicle Soon" shows up on the display, no lights on the dash comes on when the "High Beams", "Fog Lights", "Turn Signals" are in use. However everything else outside the car works as it should. There is no "Check Engine" light on the dash and the stock factory radio says, "Locked" so I can't listen to any tunes. I have Pulled and checked fuses, relays and replaced fuses and relays; same ole song and dance my friend. Now the crazy part is, the dimmer switch will do its job and turn on the overhead lights but on the gauges, radio and H/vac... nothing, it just stays on. Also to note, I had the battery and alternator tested and they're both good and doing fine like everyhting is normal. The batter is putting out some where in the ball park of fourteen volts and holding a charge, the alternator is producing over thirteen volts and still strong.

I did go to a junk yard today and pulled some "RAP" relays and fuses out of some other Grand Prixs that were the same generation as mine; didn't do anything to solve the problem other. Now, the door locks won't work just hearing a "Clicking" sound when I use the switch and the trunk won't open either. So, I don't know...I'm trying to fix a problem and I don't seem to be helping any. But with all this said, the car will start and drive like nothing is wrong. Soo..I don't know what else to do at this point.
