    Hey there! Just signed up.

    An aside, I couldn't get the 'Z' supplier right....but i just assumed it was zzperformance of course!!! for 3800 parts... kept typing it in, and it said i was wrong. anyway...

    My real questions are:

    I lucked upon a very good condition 2005 GTP for $3k. Better condition than I even expected. Didn't really have much wrong with it and engine/transmission was in great shape especially for 200k miles.

    I got some MSD 8224 blaster coil packs (3 of em), and 6 new NGK spark plugs and some NGK wires. I couldn't find the wires i really wanted, so I'm getting some 7mm ones. Will they be noticeably worse than 8.5" or thicker?
    Also I couldn't 100% confirm that the 8224's are the right coil pack but i'm 99% sure. anyone know?

    I also want to replace the engine fan with an electric powered one (exposing a new relay and connecting fan to it) instead of the engine powered one, freeing up the engine power and also avoiding the common shutoff issue at low gears and revs (the engine runs hotter at lower gear/rev since the fan's low power is either not working or not working as well as it should...the engine cools down on the highway). Any guides or advice on this? Could i use this fan for that purpose? (2005 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX Maradyne High Performance Fans M142K Maradyne Champion Series Electric Fans | Summit Racing)

    I would never use those MSD coils. They are terrible.

    Are you misfiring? If not, I'd leave your ignition system alone. If you are, OEM parts are the best.


    Your car already has electric fans. Make sure they are both working. Also, some type of scanner that reads live data is needed to see how hot the car is actually running, just to make sure you do have an issue.

    Coils: damn, really? I've heard great things about these coils, and they are being installed today with new wires and plugs. car is in the shop. I'll let you know how it goes

    Fan issue: ok, but then its modulated, (maybe pwm?) and not at full speed all the time so i thought maybe it was engine powered...i just want it on at full speed all the time, what would i have to do for that?
    i can tell that the fans work because on the highway, the (supposedly pwm controller) sets it to high and the temps drop a bit, if i do a bunch of city driving its higher than i want. never gets to red though...so a small issue

    My 07 GT was overheating at idle but would cool off when driving, found out it was because my radiator was corroded and gross. Fans shouldn't need to be on all of the time to keep the engine at normal temp. I'd say check your radiator for damage and go from there.

    noted. for the above poster, who called the MSD coils trash, the coils (with new plugs and wires) definitely improved idling and starting, and throttle response. i see nothing wrong with them. they seem good for 50k miles. (most cars i change coils/plugs/wires every 50k or so anyway)

    yeah the temps aren't really a problem, radiator looks fine, its just the PWM that keeps the temps slightly higher in city driving than highway, but it only gets to 3/4 of the gauge and stays there, so not in the danger zone.

    Just got a ZZP PCM and KN filter (drop in, im not sold on a cold air intake unless im taking the headlight out LOL...and im not), so that's next.

    Remaining issues (for the price, so far seems great -- im gonna try resolving these before swapping the PCM)
    - have a very intermittent gas cap message + engine light but it only came on once or twice in 2 months, never on otherwise. Still debugging that one. Nothing happens different when its on. Thinking its a sensor. or small evap leak. or canister. not sure
    - sometimes has trouble starting consecutive times. battery looks good. maybe its the charging system? alternator? serp belt? getting those things looked at (battery/alt/serp) on the 22nd
