Hello Fellow GP owners. Brand new to the forum and just looking for help/advise on some issues I am having. I own a 2003 Grand Prix GT w/3800 II, bought it with about 45,000 miles and have put 100K miles on roughly. I really enjoy driving this car, have made a few trips to So Cal in it and it loves running in the 80-90mph range
Anyhow my issues are not new:
1) Water in passenger side floor
2) Water in trunk
Have not looked into these issues but I can't imagine the fix is difficult.
And the biggie driving me nuts right now:
3) DRL/Heater control issue going off and on intermittently. I changed the key cylinder but that did nothing to help. 2-3 yrs ago I lost fan speed 1-4, so I changed the blower resistor and that fixed the issue but at that time I was not having the DRL going out and the heater control not working.
All the functions work, DRL, Heater/AC, Defrost so I don't think it is any fuses. Right now only 5 speed works if I re-start my car a few times and then it kicks in. I can't get 1-4 to work, when I changed the key cylinder for about 3-4 minutes 1-4 was working, then stopped again.
What should I look at? Appreciate any links to this issue in the forum as I am not sure what I should search for...
Thanks!
José

Water getting past the blower motor is a typical problem. Read here..... http://www.grandprixforums.com/how-to-write-ups-tech-tips/6961-water-in-floorboard-take-2-the-permanent-fix.html

Most likely the ignition switch is faulty. You can change it (the problem will come back again), or just do the Ignition Saver mod..... ClubGP:

Thanks Chris B......I was just reading that most probably the ignition switch is at fault. I'll jump under the steering column again and take a look at the wire harness. That wire ignition switch harness looks to be about $35.....I could just change it and see if it solves my problem. Cheap fix seems, if it lasts then I'm good.
Appreciate the reply......Anything else to possibly look into?

So I replaced the ignition switch yesterday and the DRL seem to be working normally now. Fan speed 1-4 is now working, so the switch certainly was the issue......but. Now speed 5 is not working at all?? I can only assume it is the blower resistor but that does not make sense to me as I thought the resistor was to control 1-4 and that 5 was bypassing the resistor. I replaced the resistor about 3yrs ago.
I have not read of this happening to others......
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

So update to close this topic of DRL/Blower/Key not working. It's all fixed now........Speed 1-5 all work perfectly.
1) Replaced ignition harness
2) Replaced blower resistor
3) Took blower motor out and cleaned it and sprayed with lubricant and wire cleaner
4) Removed key lock solenoid
I also had water coming in passenger side for past 4-5 yrs, but did not see any corrosion on the blower nor in the fan well area. I fixed the weatherstrip for the water leak.......Pulled out the key lock solenoid and problem solved, no more reaching under to hit the button, PITA!!
My next issue is to take the car in for exhaust leak issue, getting fumes in the car and runs loud, I am assuming a leak. Power has not diminished, trans shifts just fine motor revs with no issues so I think I have a leak or hole somewhere.
Peace out!

Your resonator has probably rusted out. It's that large muffler shaped thing behind the cat. Most just replace it with a long glasspack on the cheap.

Awesome......Thanks! Will crawl under and give it a look, have not done that yet. Not sure I can do that DIY repair though, we'll see.

Quick update on some of my recent work.......
The fumes in the car were from a gas line leak, the IN line connector went bad. I assume the 2 o rings just wore out, cut and replaced with a new section and no more leak, bad MPG and gas fume smell gone in cabin. Had the exhaust checked out and its all in good shape.
The noise turned out to be the front wheel bearing hubs, after 145K miles makes sense. The passenger one seemed ok, the driver side one was bad, dry spots all over. Installed Moog wheel bearing hubs and the noise is all gone, nice smooth quiet ride again. Took me prolly 4 hours of work as the 2 bolts holding the caliper bracket were lock tite in and was a huge problem getting those bolts loose on each wheel, broke 2 15mm sockets. And the 3 13mm bolts holding the hub assembly were also a PITA removing, had to turn the wheel in and outwards to get a good angle on the bolts.
Normally should be a 2 hour job is my guess.
