ABS Pipe would be ALLOT lighter than PVC and just as strong for people that have it available too them.

as far as a swivel/tilt mount, it would be the most expensive part of the stand, but panavise makes swivel/tilt mechanisms that would be ideal.... PANAVISE MODEL 400 SWIVEL HEAD FOR YOUR LAPTOP MOUNT!! - eBay (item 5821570129 end time Feb-07-08 15:49:25 PST)

that's the one that takes a 1" size shaft.

they make a smaller one that takes a 5/8" shaft, too.

I saw this item at walmart yesterday and imediately thought of this how-to. I'm guessing depending on the size/shape/weight of your laptop it might be a perfect match. It'd allow for the swivel, tilt piece too. I saw that the tray part comes off of the arm and uses what looked like about a 1" OD pipe so i'm sure making a tray to suit would be easy.

Now thats an interesting idea. May have to look into that along with the Panavise idea, both really really good options.

can the stand be removed so you can still use the seat or is it like a permanent thing?

This is the mount I wound up buying. It's rigid pipe but very strong and sturdy.

Car Truck Laptop Mount Desk Stand FITS ALL VEHICLES $25 | eBay

I screwed it down in front of but next to the front seat hook. I also bought a quick disconnect. The seat can still be used with the mount installed. Might not be able to move seat forward. All depending on where u mount it.

sorry i guess i asked the wrong question, but thanks anyways, what i was trying to figure out was, is the set-up made from the pvc pipe able to be taken out and stored when your not using it or is it a fixed frame and it has to be there all the time, like i want to install one but i dont want it there all the time and i need the seat to so i was woundering if the stand can be pulled apart from the base and put in the trunk when i dont want to use it and then just push it back together when i want to use it again
..btw the inside of your car looks great, what kinda seat is that?

    Thanks!

That racing seat is only a little comfy. After a while, you want to get out. The one I had before which was also a racing seat but heavier was more comfy cause it was wider. If you look at the roll cage pics you will see the seat.
