Well I have been suffering with this same issue since June of this year. I discovered this trick over on www.caraudio.com 's website a few days ago and read up on the fix for the Pioneer HUs. So today I had time to try the grounding of the RCA's and it worked almost perfectly.
Here are a couple pictures of my Pioneer 6000 HU with the ground wiring installed.
This trick cut the noise down to almost nothing. I can only hear a slight whine when the volume is turned down between 0-2 on the HU. I would say its a success!!! I have my radio back!!!
Just to note.....
People might wonder how the ground stays attached around the RCA jack, well its quite simple actually. When you plug back in the male RCA to the Female RCA on the HU, it basically "smashes" the ground wire against the back of the HU's plate behind the female RCA jacks. Some folks have used a bit of sauter to secure the wiring, but it really is not necessary.
I hope this helps anyone who might have this issue with their Pioneer HU or perhaps any other HU that might have a similar issue with Alternator Whine (noise)
