got my transgo shift kit installed yesterday. went pretty well except for my trans dipstick tube seal must have a crack as i leaked 1/4 qt of fluid. I was freaking out thinking the pan wasn't sealed and almost broke one of the bolts checking to make sure it was tight. so far it shifts great again and no code yet (1811).
The how to looks nicer with the images linked in where I want them. That seal should be pretty easy to replace. Glad to hear it shifts better, my max adapt hasn't come back since. Shifts don't get sloppy anymore.

It's all updated now. I also added more info, suggestions, tips, etc. Now onto my other how-to's to update those photos.

Good job! I ordered my transgo kit, the lube tube clamp and a new filter. Likely going to put DEX3 back in, as I had put DEX6 in a few months ago, and it feels different.

Well any time you change the fluid it will feel different for the first week or less, whether you unplug the battery to reset it or not. Yours came with III from the factory, if it's been rebuilt VI will be fine. If not it's your choice. But the shift kit makes shifts quicker, meaning better so I assume you meant it was different in a not so good way.

Not slipping, just slow or hang shifting when driving at a leisurely pace. Shifts normal at WOT though. It's been 3-4 months too, pulled the battery at least 3 times since then. Hasn't been rebuilt, just only changed the fluid and filter.

Are all the shifts the same or is it specifically the 1-2 or 2-3?

Pretty sure it's the 2-1 downshift delay I notice most. Best example is when I leave work I have to slow down for a yield sign, and when I get back on the throttle it hangs in gear (2nd I assume) for a few seconds at a low RPM before down shifting to let me accelerate.

Well I know the stock 4t65e downshifts horribly(at half throttle area), I noticed on mine for sure. You hit the gas, hear the engine rev, then a second later finally feel the power of the lower gear. The shift kit made those 100% better. Now I've had the shift kit for a while, our impala doesn't have one and its up shifts are always quick and firm without a kit. But the downshifts...man they're slow. I'm going to do a shift kit and filter/fluid on that this summer.

Well if it hangs in the gear for a second the PCM is deciding whether or not to go back down to first I guess. What I meant was it already commanded it because you can hear the engine rpm's rise, but can't feel the power until a second later. It hasn't done that since the shift kit was installed, when you hear it shift you feel the power instantly. But what you might be saying is that it doesn't command 1st gear as soon as you hit the gas, yeah mine does that as well. Tuning would change that kind of stuff.

It should be noted that the transmission fluid level should be checked when vehicle is at normal operating tempature and on flat level ground. This doesn't mean run it down the road at 100mph and come back and check it. But, start it, cycle manually through all PRND321 Positions, and let it come up to operating temp. Then check it.

Yeah I just realized that. Haha thanks. So once I get everything reassembled, I add about 7 quarts of Dex III , start it and run it through the positions, check level, and add more if necessary?

Me personally I don't like the multi use crap but it works snd I think I used that in my car last time I did a pan drop, I got valvoline DEX VI from napa for like 6.99 a quart or so and used that when I did my moms LaCrosse. Its just a better fluid over Dex III

I mean iv seen arguments that that you should only run III in cars that say III because of the viscosity of the fluid being a little different or some crap. But Dex VI(replaced Dex III iirc) is backwards compatible for Dex III so I don't see what the problem is. If it was super different they wouldn't label it as such. Your call tho.
