    This is math anybody could do but i did it all today and figured i would share it. Hope somebody finds this interesting!

    Use at your own discretion, i haven't found a downside to using this but i have heard others warn against it so look up some facts make up your own mind first. also this is just one mixture that i was figuring for myself, your own numbers can be added in easily, my purpose is to show and explain the formula or give a general idea of the change toluene does.

    Toluene=114 octane
    Premium(by me)=91 octane

    Formula= (x*91)+(y*114)/x+y=desired octane
    where y= the amount of regular gas in mix
    and x= the amount of toluene in mix

    if say you want a 95 octane rating in 15 gallons of total mixture the formula becomes: (y*91)+(x*114)/x+y=95, y=15-x.
    skipping ahead a little: 1365-91x+114x/15=95
    comes out to: x=2.61
    plug x into the y formula you get: y=12.4

    So to get 15 gallons of 95 octane you need 2.61 gallons of toluene and 12.4 gallons of premium gas. (+whatever is in your tank though too keep in mind.)

    A little side note that is about 4.52ish a gallon for 15 gallons(with that mix at my local gas prices and changes with %toluene).

    I know a lot of areas have 93 or 92 octane premium too so you can easily just take this formula and change the 91 to whatever your gas is. Also getting 95 octane from 91 gas is adding 17% toluene which is a decent amount. Again do some research on it, from what i hear 30% is about the top you'd want, i cant personally speak to that so do a little research. This is my first writeup Hope somebody finds it useful! if anybody spots any mistakes let me know, i know i have it right on paper and i don't see any copying mistakes but you never know.

    There i got the excel spreadsheet in the zip folder if there is a better way let me know, but its pretty easy like that. Lotsa time into that let me know what you think!

    Only change the numbers in the top part. The bottom part of the spreadsheet are all formulas reliant on the top numbers. Also on the top numbers, you can only have 1 number be 0 at a time. You must enter a value for all but one and that one has to be 0. Thanks!

    there's a bunch of 'home remedy' race gas mix recipes out there. maybe we should make this thread a little more in depth with those formulas as well?

    Make this a plug and play program out of excel and you have a deal.

    Sure thing i have one! how do you upload excel files?

    And for what you said bio this formula will work for anything. You just figure out what the octane rating is of whatever you want to add and plug it in instead of the 114 octane rating of the toluene. All just one formula. But i agree i will try to find some other octane boosting chemicles used for gas and put the octane ratings on here along with the P&P excel spreadsheet!

    NVM on excel i got it uploaded inside a zip. file.

    tranny fluid? odd. I can agree with toluene and xylene though pretty much any aromatic ring will boost octane. Cinnamaldehyde would be interesting.

    That's great for bumping octane, but how does it effect tuning, what is the stoichiometric ratio for toluene, and how much specific energy does it have would you have to bump up injectors or timing?

    I have a Sunoco that sells 100 5 miles from a drag strip. which is 30 miles from me, and in the drag strip they sell 115.

    To put in very simple terms. Higher Octane mean more boost and more timing. It is not as much as having a higher energy fuel.

    Yes I know, but with e85 being 110 octane you cannot just go adding it to gas to up the octane number without re-tuning the engine. I am wondering if that is the same issue here since you would then technically be burning a different fuel.

    Yes a re-tune would be needed or you are just burning really expensive fuel for no good reason.

    would running a small amount of something as in just enough to reduce a degree or two of KR still require a tune?

    Nope, if you were just trying to do it at a drag strip for a couple runs, there would be no use in trying to tune for it.
