This HOW TO write-up on Adding Performance Shift has been added to the How To Section and can be found HERE

I posted this on the KC and STL Boards, but I figured I would post it here as well.

Its just the installation portion of the PS wiring to the PCM. Everyone varies on how they setup their switch for the PS option. Whether it be the Shifter Button or a flip switch located somewhere else. This is the part is the trickiest for most people.

I hope you all find it useful

Not 100% sure on this, but I believe that if you have the DIC that has "performance shift" then that is the one that will light up. If you dont have it on the DIC, then the cluster one will light, but you cant have both.

It was about 4 years ago that I read something on that, so I may be wrong, and never checked into it because the DIC lights up fine for me.

1998 is the only year Perf Shift will light up in the Cluster as far as I know, otherwise it will light up in the DIC. You can add the Perf Shift in the cluster too as long as you have the right socket + blub.

I added it to mine so when Perf shift is on my DIC lights up and so does the cluster. I added it because I had a spare blub and socket laying around. Figured what the hell, right? :-)

NOTE: I don't know if this will work on 2001+ that don't have Perf. Shift factory wired up.

so what would i need to do to get that to light up? would the socket and bulb be something i could find locally or would i have to find on to take off another gp? i think it would be cool to have both light up also.

I had a spare cluster so I took the blub and socket out of there. I donno where you can get one honestly. Dealer may sell replacements for your cluster. Either that or go to a junk yard and yank the blub/socket. Several of the idiot lights are the same blub/socket including the oil pressure. Take out your cluster, you'll see exactly what i'm talking about. The socket is opened on the Perf Shift light. Just put a blub/socket in that hole and thats it. It lights up blue, just like your brights light

Anyone know if a 2002 gt pcm would be set up for this already? Or would it have to be programed? Thanks!

I've read a few of your posts and was wondering if you did anything to get your DIC to light the perf. shift indicator.
i've got a '98 GTP and can see a vague outline for it on the DIC, but it doesn't ever light, even when turning the key and cycling power. do i need to run a wire to the PCM like in the mod, or is it something else?
    Any help would be appreciated...Thanks.

I mean if the stock pcm will work with the perf shift or will I have to get the pcm out of whatever car I get the shifter and wiring from? Thanks.

a stock pcm wont work unless the "performance shift" is enabled in the pcm. meaning you either have to get an aftermarket pcm or flash the tables into the stock one

But as long as I take the pcm out of the car I get the shifter and wiring from will I be fine or could it cause other issues?

It will not light up until you have your performance switch installed and the PCM is setup to have it run. It was in my 98 GT's DIC and it never light up when I started my engine. It only will light once its engaged.

It means the performance switch feature in your Intense PCM was not setup to run. You can switch it on, but more than likely Intense tweaked your daily driving transmition settings. So you would either copy those settings to your performance shift and change your daily driving, NONPerformance Shifting mode, that is how I have mine setup.

First off you do NOT need the performance switch leather knob to enable your performance shift. If you read my write, I said in there you do not need the shift knob to activate it. You need simply a flip switch to activate and deactivate the PS mode. You just need to have the wiring setup for the PCM to switch it on and off. And you can have a grounded flip switch on the dash or center console if you want to do the same thing as the leather shift knob would do.

Its really just a preference to keep my car looking as close to stock as possible inside.
