i guess the code is P1336 (Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn) and to fix the error looks like i need to buy a Scan Tool to program it to learn it self to fix he problem.... Anybody have any ideas or thoughts about any of this....?

So the ground that hooks up to the switch, and the wire that connects to the pcm is (the hot wire) just grounded out to activate the PERFORMANCE SHIFT. you'd think it would be more complicated. Good write up..
I thought it was called a CASE Learn? Where the car basically had to recalibrate itself after a major changing in how its timing and stuff is done. I know I am not using the proper words, but it something a lot cars go through when changes occur that are out of the norm from what the car has learned prior. Hence the "learn" process.
Here is a link I think you might useful in gathering the information you need to do this.
How Can I Get a CASE Learn Done? - 3800Pro.com Forum
I hope that helps
LOL well its a bit more involved than just the two wires you mentioned. That is actually the easy part. The hard part, some would say, is finding someone with a programmer, ie DHP or HPTuners, to set the parameters in the Tranny codes to allow the use of the Performance Switch.
Pretty much all the Grand Prixs have this feature, but only that certain spectrum between what? 1999-2001 had the feature actively turned on in the PCM. After that, they GM, shut the feature off in the PCM, but left it there to be turned on by people like us
I knew that, but i was looking into getting a pcm, i ran the wire today. Talking to a guy about tune this week to kick it on for me.

So actually if the wire is ran and sy the PCM is Not got the code turned on, will the light even light up. I hooked it all up today and the light didnt come on, i know its not functioning of course but is the light also tied into the PCM.
Thanks ill look into that and LOL a Dealership wanted $90 just to look at it and this other shop wanted $80 just to look at the car and im like DUDE i know whats wrong with it how much to fix it hes like well its $80 and then what ever else we find wrong im like what ever i can do it my self but thanks
PRJ is good people! He wont do ya wrong! And yes you will be a lot happier after he gets done with your car! He is coming here to the St. Louis/IL area to work on some of our local members cars Cant wait to meet him.
Me either. Ive seen a few parts for sale of his on the forums. He needs to be a vender and list his services. But im glad you guys have heard of him, i was told to check him out my 04CompG, im glad he showed me cuase i want a PCM tune now not how long it takes to get a new one in mail. PLUS the wideband tuning means a can have a gauge thats accurate and not jumping up and down..
very nice write up! but i do have one question if I do the modification as described and then later get a Reprogrammed PCM will it hurt my vehicle to have the wiring but not use the performance shift modification, since the pcm wont be set up for it, as i dont have a programming machine, until i get the pcm? also would it be easier to do this mod w/ the kit from pfyc? just a question and no offense towards Geddy's setup.

I'll be damned, I can't believe I never noticed the "PERFORMANCE SHIFT" in the background of my DIC before. I was shocked when I checked it after coming across this write up. Now that I know its there it MUST be activated. Is there anyone in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area with the equipment to setup my PCM for reasonable fee??? I just cant justify paying $99 online.
well i tried this mod today and then it did not light up in the DIC so i undid it and hooked back up the original setup because i am not getting the pcm tuned for a while... then i started to get a Service Required Light... so i went and unhooked the battery and let it reset then reseated the connector. After i started it again there was no light on but i am worried that i did something wrong is this normal?
Hello Blox,
How did you do the wiring? Did you follow my write up? If the computer (PCM) is not setup to run the Performance Shift, it would not cause the SES light to come on. You may want to recheck all your connections. IE the AIT sensor, and make sure you have resecured all connections on the PCM correctly and nothing is lose.
If the light went off, more than likely there something not fully hooked back up, I would go over all your parts you disconnected to make sure they are ok. If you have to, find someone with a scanner, either DHP or even an LS1 (Palm) scanner to check for past codes and codes that might not activate the SES light.
More than likely you are if you have checked all your connections and they look good.
I hope that helps.
Thanks alot.... I just went through and checked all of my connections and it looks like everything is OK, i am guessing my PCM just did not have performance shift turned on yet since I have held back on getting it tuned. Thanks!
My performance shift Light is always on in the display that also shows if the doors are open or not!!! But I can make the performance shift light above the Fuel Gauge turn on and off but the other light always stays on.... Any Ideas?
where is your write up of how to hook it all up maybe i can find something not hooked up right...
It is on the first page of this thread. It is marked HERE as a blue hyperlink. But for good measure......Here is the link for ya.

This should get you where you need to go. If your PERFORMANCE SHIFT light is ON all the time in the DIC (Driver Information Console) then that more than likely means someone programed it to stay on fulltime more than likely. If you the follow the wiring diagram I provided plus the PCM tuning instructions, you will be able to turn it on and off.
I think it is best to have your stock settings for the tranny available when you want and then to have your higher performing shift settings available when you click the PS button to activate it. Personally I would not worry about the dash PS light. If your dash actually has that option available, more than likely you have a 97 model GP. 98-03 have the PERFORMANCE SHIFT only in the DIC from what I do remember of them. There is a good chance either bulb is burnt out on the dash console, thus it not lighting up, or the PERFORMANCE SHIFT indicator has been wired in some way to show it constantly actived.
The only way to be sure is to have someone with a scanner check your PCM transmission settings to truly determine if that has been done or not.

Thanks
Im Pretty Sure its a 99 thats what the Title Says also its lit up all the time in the DIC and then the other one in the dash over the fuel gauge i can turn it on and off with the switch on the shift knob. But Im Pretty sure that when ever i turn it on or off there is no change so i dont think it works. The PCM has been changed so ill have to find somebody to help me with it. Also my Check Engine is still on saying the code P1336 (Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn) So ill have to get thoughs both fixed at the same time.
