So, youre interested in putting factory nav in your GP? you like the factory compatible features with the HUD and steering wheel controls? well, this is the how to for you!
heres some things to know, the factory nav system REQUIRES and external amp. monsoon or otherwise. the factory nav was only an option for monsoon equipped models. youll need to get an antenna, a nav unit a nav dvd and a few feet of wire. you will need to have your nav unit unlocked at the dealer ship.

the Nav unit is the same model as the corvette C6, they ebay from 500 -1000 under that title...

the DVD is about 100 searched for as grand prix nav dvd

the antenna is about 30 to 50

the hardest parts of the install are getting the nav unit and getting the HUD to show directions but when its done its pretty great. so heres how,
same install process as any other radio.

remove the center console, key ring first, then the larger DIC housing and then the 3 center console pieces. once you have the radio out pop in the nav unit the connectors should just plug right in, make sure to connect all the wires; antenna, XM, and speaker outs. the antenna is the little grey square plug with only one wire. the XM set is the 12 wire connector set with the black plastic plug. the speaker outs is the larger grey plastic one. note there is still one open connection set on the back this is the voice command mic set. put your dash back together drive to your dealership and have them unlock the unit.

once the units unlocked open it up pop in your dvd and get ready to enjoy! but not yet the hardest part is yet to come. so HUD + NAV? yes please. heres where it gets fun youll be connecting the VSS to your NAV unit. where do you begin? well get yourself out that 6' or so of wire i used 20 gauge its thick but not too thick to bend into place for a pin connection on the back of the NAV.

remember that XM plug set in the back of the NAV? you're going to be connecting the VSS to that. specifics, the VSS end location on the XM plug is pin D. So you'll now need to take apart your dash again. repeat first section skipping swapping head units.

VSS end location on the XM plug is pin D.
You'll have to look on the back of that set of wires the housing is labeled A-F on one 1/2. I used plyers to bend my 20 gauge wire into shape (folded over) and tightened to fit into the pin D spot. from there i ran the wire behind the unit down the center console under the dash out the rubber door wire boot through the body pannel and out through the fender well opening next to the PCM. The VSS wire. so your pcm has 3 sockets, the VSS is on the blue J1 socket, its pin #22, the VSS is a GREEN wire. that is the second row away from the firewall, located 6 pins RIGHT of the #28 labeled on the socket. follow this green wire back a few inches and strip a small section to connect your wire from the cabin. there are 3 yes, THREE green wires on this blue J1 socket, so make sure you double check your green wire is the right green wire. once this is done just reassemble your center console, pop in some directions, calibrate your location and enjoy the airplane hostess like guided directions with HUD indications!

heres a pic of the NAV from behind the xm is the black plastic 12 pin on the right. from this view the D pin is the 4th from the right.

there is also a firmware update for the units IF they do not play mp3 cds. takes a couple minutes but is pretty awesome for not needing 100 cds in the car anymore

my line in is the XM wire splice write up using $5 of radio-shack parts, liked below

    http://www.grandprixforums.net/how-a...-xm-21849.html

the mp3 nav update is a two disk two step process but your unit may be partially compatible as is... i found the update on a corvette c6 forum
i have linked the files onmy dropbox, you will need to burn the .iso files to two separate disks and follow the instructions
i did the update but only needed disk one, as it states if you already have the update on disk two, disk two will not start the update. so after using only disk one, i can now listen to mp3 cds.

    files:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16054037/%23...2C%202005).txt
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16054037/Disk1.iso
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16054037/Disk2.iso

The firmware update is relevant for 2005s ONLY and corrects the static that sometimes occurs while listening to FM. In these instances, momentarily switching to AM and then back to FM gets rid of the static. The bigger win from doing the firmware update, though, is that it provides the head unit with MP3 disc playability. It's great being able to play CDs with over eight hours of music on them!

A couple of important things to remember before doing the firmware update:
    1. It should only be done on 2005 models.
    2. It should only be performed ONCE. Attempting to perform the update on a head unit that has already received it could cause permanent damage to the head unit.
    3. The instructions MUST be followed to the letter; any deviation could cause permanent damage to the head unit.

    Here are the complete instructions:

2005: Service Bulletin: Poor and/or No Radio Reception, Intermittent Static on FM with Navigational
    Radio System (Update Radio Software)

    Service Bulletin #: 05-08-44-014A
    Date: December 9, 2005
Subject: ASI Resolution - Poor and/or No Radio Reception, Intermittent Static on FM with Navigational Radio
    System (Update Radio Software)
Model(s): 2005 Chevrolet Corvette (Domestic and Export) with Navigation Radio
    Condition
Some customers may comment on the following conditions:
" Static is heard on stations with an otherwise strong signal, after the ignition is turned on.
" The radio is unable to stop at specific stations when using the "seek" function.
    Correction
    DO NOT REPLACE THE RADIO
Important: The software is updated using a CD, not through SPS programming. New software, P/N
15853651, can be obtained from GMSPO. Dealers should retain the service CD for future use.
The software update will do the following:
" Modify the signal interface with the ARS module to correct the reception condition.
" Add an on-screen message to remind the customer that a destination is required before a route can be
    planned.
    " Add MP3 functionality.
The navigation/radio software, P/N 15853651, should be updated using the following procedure:
    Important:
" This software can ONLY be used for updating the 2005 Corvette navigation radio, P/N 15263014. Do not
use these CDs to update any other vehicle's navigation radio. The radio part number can be verified via the
    Tech 2®.
" Software CDs and a Tech 2® are required to complete this procedure.
" Use of latex gloves is recommended to avoid fingerprints on the products and/or discs.
" If the vehicle is turned "off" during updating, the "software updating" process may not work and a new
    navigation radio will be required.
Follow the steps below to complete the software update.
Turn the ignition "on" with the engine "off" by holding the ignition switch in "ACC" mode for at least 10
    seconds.
Open the tilt screen (navigation screen) to gain access to the DVD drive.
Eject the navigation DVD from the DVD drive (bottom slot).
Important: It may be necessary to close the radio screen for Disc 1 - Navigation to begin operation. If the
navigation software version in the navigation radio is the same or higher than v.1312, the software updating
    will not start.
Insert Disc 1- Navigation software version 1312 into the DVD slot.
"Preparing to Load System Software" is displayed on the screen along with a progress bar. It will take
approximately 5 minutes for Disc 1 to load.
After Disc 1 - Navigation has completed the navigation system will automatically restart. Eject disc 1 from the
DVD slot. Insert Disc 2 - Audio software version 01.0F into the DVD slot.
    1/2
Important: Approximately 10-15 seconds after inserting the disc, the screen will go blank. It will appear that
the radio has shut down and/or locked up. This is the mode the radio will go into when the software is
updating. If the audio software version in the navigation radio is the same as v01.0F, the software updating
    will not start.
When Disc 2 is completed, the system will automatically restart. It will take approximately 5-10 minutes for
the system to restart. Remove Disc 2 - Audio from the DVD drive.
Turn the vehicle off. Open and close the driver's door and wait for 60 seconds.
Turn the vehicle on and reinstall the customer's navigation DVD.
Press the "NAV" button on the navigation radio, then press the "Agree" soft key on the screen.
After the map screen is displayed, touch the map screen the confirm that the map can be scrolled.
Using the Tech 2®, clear any/all DTCs from the radio.

This is exactly where I am at with my installation. I installed my factory Nav radio from my 2007 Grand Prix and it is unlocked and it sees the satellite with the $20 antenna I bought on Amazon. Now I need to connect the wire from the head unit to the VSS wire on the PCM harness. Does anyone have a picture of the PCM system for a 2004 to 2008 Grand Prix? It could really be useful. Where is this box located?
    Thanks, Regards,
    John L.

It is located in the airbox of the car. Right in front of the air filter.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thank you so much. It appears to be underneath of the air box. So I need to remove it completely. Can you confirm the lead (green wire) I need to tap? Did you perform this modification as well? I wish someone posted a picture of the wire.

The Chevy dealer I visited got it working, but they had no clue either. They had to look it up on the GM online tech manual. Ironically, the Internet was down at the dealership for part of the day and it took a while, but they only charged one our $125 labor to change the VIN on the radio. They aid they weren't even sure if they were supposed to do it that way, but it worked. Remember to buy the GPS antenna. This one on Amazon works great.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works on the dash or even better on the trunk lid. It is magnetic so I placed it on the trunk lid at the top edge with a little slack in the cord. Be aware that there are 3 or 4 different types of connectors on the plugs of various brands of GPS antennae. This one is for a Kenwood head unit.

I plan to install on Sunday May 10th 2015 so I will post pictures Monday. Good luck!

Okay so first things first.. my new factory navigation came out of a corvette.. technically same radio as the pontiacs. I installed it the other day had it unlocked at the dealer and installed my ACDelco 15821030 antenna.. so my problem is the navigation has a red slash through it constantly and acts as if there is no signal.. the steering wheel controls will not work.. the Navi radio will not display time nor will my dic display the date.. any help here would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had the same issue. Try this antenna from Amazon. Extend it to the right hand side by the fuse box and then under the door sills to the rear seat. The cable is long enough to reach to the trunk. I zip tied under the read deck near the speakers and then left enough slack to mount it on the trunk lid just below the read window. it is magnetic. Just remember to place it on the inside of the trunk when going through car washes.

I ordered a new antenna and was planning on trying that out but the ****ty part is I just checked into everything that was done more in depth in this process. I took my car to merollis chevy on Gratiot in Eastpointe Michigan I only say the exact location because I advise nobody to go there.. they ****ed me over on the whole unlocking and programming process.. apparently they unlocked my radio and re-input the Vin from the previous corvette in the radio and told the radio again that it was put into a corvette not a grand prix and proceeded not to program the radio to my car but yet still charged me for the service.. I didn't think anything of it until I realized that most of the features that I previously stated were not working.. I tried going back to tell them they did it wrong and they proceeded to tell me they'd have to charge me an additional 130 dollars to program it to my vehicle.. so I kinda got screwed by them and pretty much told them to screw off and left.. now I'm stuck having to go to a different dealer to have them correctly program it to my car and pay again -_-

Guys I did this install 2 years ago. If you have a red slash, you have the antenna in the wrong spot. I placed mine in the factory spot right in front of dash speaker. Get the corvette antenna, it has a longer wire.

I have tried a couple different antennas since my last post.. the stock one with the short wire a kenwood one which has the exact same clip and the corvette one and I even mounted the antenna temporarily on top of the dash for a couple days and none of the changes have made a difference.

I made the same swap from an '07 to an '08. And all the dealer had to do was learning out the VIN from the radio and type in the new one. Have them contact Elkins Chevrolet in Marlton NJ www.elkinschevrolet.com. They were able to unlock it.
