Note: Existing keyless remotes will be erased with this procedure.
Existing working remotes will have to reprogrammed also.
    1. Locate the programming connector wire located in the RH trunk area.
You may have to pull back right side trunk trim on trunk wall to locate
    the single black/white wire.
    2. The programming connector wire should have one termial in the plastic
connector on end of black/white wire. Ground the terminal in the connector
to a nearby bolt or trunk latch.
Leave connector wire connected to ground through out procedure.
    3. System will now lock and unlock doors automatically to indicate
    programming mode has been activated.
    4. Press any button on keyless remote. System will respond by locking
and unlocking doors one time to indicate successful programming.
    5. Repeat step 4 for to program any additonal keyless remotes including
and existing keyless remotes. Do not remove ground wire between
    programming of keyless remotes.
    6. Disconnect programming connector wire from ground to exit programming
    mode.
    7. Test keyless remote(s).

IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the remotes you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the remotes , all previous codes will be erased from the memory. The other remotes will not be functional until you program the remotes again.
    1. Close the vehicle doors.
    2. Insert key in ignition and turn to ON (As far as you can without cranking engine)
    3. Turn ignition OFF and remove the key from the ignition.
    4. Press and hold the driver side door lock switch in the UNLOCK position.
    5. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and remove the key.
    | (Do not turn the ignition key in the lock cylinder.)

    6. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and remove the key.
(Do not turn the ignition key in the lock cylinder.)

    7. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder. (Do not turn the

    cylinder.

    8. Release the door lock switch. The vehicle will sound three beeps in order to
verify the Program Mode has been activated.

    9. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together on the keyless entry
transmitter and hold until the vehicle beeps twice to verify that the
transmitter has been successfully programmed (this take approximately 15
    seconds).

    10. Perform the previous step to program up to four transmitters (including your
    old ones).

    11. Remove the ignition key in order to exit the Program Mode.

    1. Remove the key from the ignition.

    2. Close all doors.

    3. Remove the "MALL PGM" fuse from the fuse panel. Use the legend on the fuse panel or
*** owner's manual to properly locate the "MALL PGM" fuse.

    4. Insert the key into the ignition, and turn to the ACC position.

    5. Turn the key to OFF and then back to ACC within 1 second.

    6. Open and close any vehicle door. A chime will be heard when the system enters into
    *** programming mode.

    7. Press and hold the remote LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
************* IMPORTANT: After 7 seconds, a chime may be heard confirming successful
*** synchronization. It is necessary to wait approximately 14 seconds for a second chime
*** that will confirm successful programming.

    8. Repeat step 7 now for each additional remotes to be programmed including any existing
    * * remotes.

    9. Remove key from ignition.

    10. Install the "MALL PGM" fuse back into the fuse panel and test remote(s).

And you work at a Ford dealer..

BTW guys.. I got all that info in a search.. found a link some other cool person posted and followed it to programming for all cars. Pulled just the ones I could do easily.

All I did was post it with "how to" as a title.

Stupid question I'm sure but I'm at a total loss on this: I have a 2001 GTP. I bought it 2 years ago and it came with an aftermarket car starter system with it's own FOBs. It is a CodeAlarm SureStart 433 remote starter. It no longer functions - I suspect actually that the FOBs have lost their programming through a dead battery. I'm unable to reprogram these FOBs and would like to forget the car starter and revert back to the regular FOBs that came with the cars. Is there any hope in getting a stock FOB and following the procedure above and have it work, or am I going to have to try and remove the existing SureStart CodeAlarm system? Uhg...

Typically an aftermarket would simply tap into the existing wiring and not actually disturb it. I'd expect them to work if you programmed some new factory remotes

Then it's probably worth it to at least give it a try since it's pretty inexpensive. Thanks.

I could not get mine to program using this procedure. I finally got it programmed by having the key in the ignition in the ACC position then pulled the Mall PGM fuse. I also had the door open the whole time. Hopefully this will help someone that could not get it to work using the proper procedure above.

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone know anything about programming the key fobs beyond the procedure listed above? I found the one Bill posted on a dozen different sites and I have tried it about 2 dozen times now, but no luck.

History: I bought the car a few years ago and the person who sold it to me gave me 2 remotes that worked fine. However, the rubber piece that has the buttons on it started to fall apart so that the buttons were coming apart from the rest of the rubber. So I went on ebay and bought two new shells and rubber button membranes parts and used the existing circuit boards. Those worked great for several weeks though they were a bit more sensitive since the buttons weren't worn down like the old ones. I believe what happened is they activated in my pocket too many times and then lost the sync with the car.

So I verified the battery was good on both and tried to reprogram and it's not working. At first, I think I wasn't entering programming mode because I had not turned the key fast enough - I think it's slightly faster than 1 second needed to switch it back on.

I hear a series of 8 beeps once I turn the key and the beeps sound different than the ones you hear if you leave the key in the ignition and open a door. I also believe it's in programming mode because when I press the unlock button on the door of the car I hear the same different style beep. I next go to the step where you open and close any door and I hear the same 8 beeps. Then I try pressing either of the two remotes I'm trying to program and nothing else happens.

I also tried listening to the beeps after turning the key and before opening the door and I found I hear the series of 8 beeps three times, then it stops.

I'm really confused by this - it shouldn't be this hard - I programmed the door locks how I wanted them without any issue at all, reset my oil life meter - but this procedure is really not working for me. (I realize those two are meant to be easier, but this doesn't sound much worse if the steps listed worked...)

Dealerships have a computer that can be hooked to it and program the remotes that way, but they usually charge for that. However, most also usually have a little box that will sense if a signal is being trasmitted, good tester unit, and can find out if the remote is working for free. That is how we test to see if the battery is dead or not without having to take it apart and break out the volt-meter.

Since you took it apart and know how it setup, you can see how basic it is. Basically if its getting power it either works or doesn't. Best thing is to try a new battery just to be safe, try to reprogram, make sure no fuses are blown on the car that may interfere with the receiver working.

While you are replacing the battery, check on this. Common issue with most remotes I see is the battery connector at the 2 outter spots breaks and it gets a horrible power connection, if it gets one at all. If its broken a quick drop of solder can fix it for a little while, otherwise its time to replace the board as well. Could be the problem.

Otherwise, if the battery went dead for any reason and buttons were pressed it could have reset the remote and lost the programming.
