I am at step 13 and cant locate the 18MM bolt you refer to. Can you give a better explanation of where it is located? Thanks in advacne for your reply!

you need to look from the pass side wheel well on the back side of the trans bell housing, you will see it. i do believe that you can see threads sticking out from the bell housing on the driver side where you would think a bolt should be, it comes from the back side.
this thread says it all it is perfect hats off to u
ther is a bracket u have to remove to see that bolt
Yes, Step 12, remove the bracket.
Being that you had the question, likely someone else has or will. Added a couple of pictures to help out.
Bill, I am getting ready to pull 3.8 out of 1998. How long would you say this typically takes on average. I am pulling only the motor and through the hood. Any other tricks that would help the process besides what you stated? Thanks a lot!!
Bill,
Looking at a 2002 Chev impala 3800 SII to swap into a 2000 Buick Regal. Is this a direct bolt in? Can the Buick supercharger be bolted onto the impala motor?
Thanks so much for the great post.
Jeff
It's sorta a direct bolt in. Basically you'd be doing a topswap. That requires some small changes in the tune to be safest, but it will start and run. You have to swap the supercharged motors lim, heads, balancer pulley and fuel rail/injectors to make it work.
IIRC Impala didn't get an SC motor until 04. That's a topswap question. Please search topswap and if you need more info post up in the general section. You will get a lot more info in there than an engine swap how to thread.
Thanks Everyone,
I should not have mixed up the questions.
Will the motor just drop in and work fine w/o the SC? Just a direct engie swap. I am not so concenred about swapping the SC to it; would just run it as it comes from the impala if it will bolt in.
Thanks again,
Jeff
Not quite, the PCM would need a custom tune, the NA transmissions have a different gear ratio. If you swapped the motor, trans, and PCM in then yes it would be a direct swap. But you should start a thread in the general section with anymore questions.
Don't forget the torque converter (bolt pattern between the SC and N/A motors is not the same).

Jeff,
Assuming the Regal is charged (aka GS) only because you mention having a charger. No it's not 100% direct drop in. I have nearly this same swap in my Regal GS.
Flex needs to be considered. NA is a 245mm TC bolt pattern, SC is 258mm. The balance is slightly different, but not enough to stop a guy from swapping the flex to the other motor. (I swapped mine, no problems)
You'll need your pcm to be tuned to put in the NA engine with the 2.93 SC transmission gearing and change shift points for the different power level.
Then there's the fuel line change. Either a dorman repair kit to change them over or braided etc.
My GSless
Bill,
Thanks...yes that is exactly what we are doing; we are putting the engine out of the impala into the Regal GS. We started yesterday pulling the engine; my son is doing all the "undercar" work as I have paid my dues in that area. Your writeup was invaluable!
We are quite a bit slower though...We worked at least four hours and are stuck because we did not have the fuel line disconnect tool. Which dorman kit is used for the change over? I expect the pull from the Implala will go much quicker.
Thanks again for the writeup and pics.
Jeff
Hi again Bill,
Engien is in the regal. I checked with our loca auto parts guys for a a dorman kit for the fule injection; can you please point me in the right direction? I see Rock Auto has some FI connecter repair kits for the 3800 Implala; are these what you were referring to? More Information for DORMAN 800058
Thanks again,
Jeff
Jeff, Yes.. they carry them in the help section at most of the parts stores local to me. That's about what you could use. Unless you wanted to wait a week and go all out with braided lines which cost much more.
Thanks again Bill,
We have the engine in and have most of the wiring connections done. We had to use the injectors and injector plugs form the impala. Virtually all of the wiring just plugs in...except on the passenger side of the upper intake, on the top, there is a three wire plug (on the Imapala loom) that plugs into a sensor labelled "Sensor Pressure". The plug for this sensor does not exist on the Regal loom. There is also a two wire plug on the Regal loom on the front drivers side that plugs that there is nothing to plug into.
Any advice on this? Is there a work around?
Thanks,
Jeff
