I personally pulled an engine from a car in the junk yard that had a good engine and transmission. Since all is good, then I trust that the torque converter should be no problem being from a junk yard and also good. It's extra work to pull it yourself at this particular junk yard, but you pay $200 per motor, and you know it's good and where it came from.
This particular car had 99K on the odometer and on carfax.

as long as your sure its off full working tranny, it should be ok.

I got my engine pulled, and I salvaged my torque converter. All good here.

I hate to reply to a 2 year old thread, but this can go in the archives for future searchers.
Can the oil filter adapter stay on and still clear the fender well? Alldata seems to think it needs to come off, but they also say to remove the W.P. pulley, and it clearly isn't in the way in your pics.
I also can't get in good to tell, but can the extension harness that goes to teh crank sensor, rear knock sensor, etc stay with the motor as you pull it or does it go elsewhere?

You can do it with it on. I've done it a bunch of times. It'll make it very close to the body and may scrape it's way up.

I've done it both ways...leaving the filter on just makes clearance a little tight. Taking the filter off doesn't necessarily make anything easier.Originally Posted by BillBoost37

Sweet. Now that I look closer, I can clearly see the filter in the pic now.
And that short harness that goes to the pressure sender, crank sensor, and rear knock sensor can stay with the engine?
I actually can't get my meat mittens on the plug of the rear knock sensor to unplug it anyway.
I should be about ready to pull it then. Just gotta tie up the PS and AC, and pull the converter bolts.

Rear knock sensor should be attached to the rear of the ps pump or hanging out close by. There's a connector about 12-18 from the knock sensor that they located right by the wheel well to make it easy. Problem is..most don't realize it's on the back of the ps pump and el ripppo

If I was to pull my engine out, what parts would be good to replace while the engine is out
Asking cause when I replace my headers I noticed a bolt broken on engine that holds the headers.
Front of engine, by the radiator and when I did the seafoam cleaning I noticed it was leaking from there
So I was thinking taking the engine out and drilling the broken bolt and tapping it

Rear main seal, rear cover gasket, oil pan gasket, crappy looking knock sensors, front cover gasket if leaking.
Those would be the best things to do if you think they need to be done.

I have another car that I can drive back and forth to work so not in a hurry
I just want to make sure I replace parts that are kind of difficult when the engine is in

Depends on how fast you can turn a wrench I suppose. Since you have another car, take your time and do it right. I like to clean and paint things as I go. I put a new radiator in, started friday night and finished yesterday afternoon. But I cleaned and painted the battery tray, and underneath it, painted the front support that has (had) all the factory stickers, and hit every bolt with the wire wheel.
