How would you suggest putting the subframe back in?
floor jack on each side, jack it up nice and slow and even, line it up, bolt it up. try to get the motor and trans mount in line on the way up.
if they wont line up you can move the engine around to get the mount bolts to line up. after the frame is bolted up.
you and me both, that same 6x6 was holding my engine in the bay at bills house lol bill also used 2 2x4 pieces to clear the hood latch, the 2x4's went on both sides of the latch, then the 6x6 went on top of them. then chained the engine, pulled the mount bolts, then dropped the frame out.
Here goes nothing. About to start my trans Swap! Wish me luck!
OK so im a total noob when it comes to replacing the trans... I hear that i do have to drop the sub frame and i have heard i dont have to which is it? Also do you have to drain the trans fluid? Im on a tight budget and i dont really have the money to replace the 11 or 12 quarts of trans fluid... thats another 50-65$ i dont want to spend if i dont have to... thanks for the great write up!
Pick either way.
Remover the motor and then remove the transmission, or lower the subframe and just remove the transmission out the bottom while supporting the motor from the top.
And do you want to clean up 12 quarts of fluid off the ground or just a little spill from it seeping out from places??
You'll want to drain the fluid and you'd need new fluid for the other transmission you are installing, you'd be foolish to not replace the fluid.
Ok cause I'm using the transmission out of a donor car and so I didn't know if I remove the fluid and put new stuff in if it would hurt it since I've had bad experiences with trans flushes ruining the transmission...

drain the pan of the donor trans. its easy if its still in the donor car. or the fluid can leak out via the axle holes when you lift it up and in.
same for your old tranny, drain the pan first, then take it out. you dont need to take the pan off, just crack the bolts free along two side to a corner, it will drain out that corner.
pan drop is like 8 quarts, the donor tanny should be able to take it if its fluid looks good. i know you said low budget, but this is a great time for a shift kit to be installed. they run like 40 bucks or so. do put a new filter int he new tranny too. dont be to cheap. some stuff is just done because its dumb not to.
Ok sounds like a plan I will be draining the trans in both. How difficult is the shift kit?

So I'm in the middle of pulling the trans and can not for the life of me get the diff to engine bracket off the engine and I can not get the last blot on the back of the trans. Because of this please help

There's 4 13mm bolts that originally hold the bracket. You should not loosen the engine to trans main bolts before doing this bracket as it'll possibly put pressure on the bolts.
Which position bolt is fighting you?
I was having problems with the 2 engine bolts on the bracket I finally got them. Thanks for the reply tho
