A guy I know is selling a built rear out of his wrecked WS6. Was thinking about putting it in my V6 auto. What problems would I most likely run into when trying to do the swap?

none for the most part. If it was out of a WS6 it had the 3.42 rear end ratio. Check to make sure if the rear out of the WS6 was a 4 channel rear end (TCS +ABS) or a 3 channel (just ABS). I swapped a WS6 rear end in to my 02 Camaro V6 with the Y87 package and it dropped right in. Plus you'll get the bonus of the larger WS6 sway bar
The biggest thing is to check which kind of rear end your car has now (3 or 4 channel) and make sure it matches the rear thats from the WS6. If not, then its a bit of a hassle to keep the ABS/TCS.
If you didn't live in VA, I would give you the BIGGEST hug ever. this is the information that I've been looking for and all I ever got was "shoulda got a V8" (see:http://www.grandprixforums.net/why-d...why-76600.html)
Shoulda had a V8.
does GPF have a facepalm smily? lol
oh you guys...
gotcha. I would miss this thing dearly if I got rid of it.
This is what It looked like when I got it,
This is what it looks like now
that is a gorgeous color
Yep. Too bad the trans had to die
shame
For the record, while yes, it could be a 3.42 gear ratio, that is not all that was optioned.
You're options for Firebirds (bear with me) rear end gear ratio's are as follows.
5-spd - 3.23:1 (ignore this, 5spd was only base v6 option
6-spd - 3.42:1
4-spd - 2.73:1 (standard equp)
4-spd - 3.08:1 (option)
So depending on the which transmission it had and what ratio it was equipped with will depend on which ratio you need to adjust for. Biggest thing is with an auto it will throw off shift points and speedometer readings. It will need to be tuned for the proper rear ratio but that isn't hard to do.
The WS6 option package was mearly suspension equipment, springs/shocks, sways, rims/tires, exhaust tips, shifter, and a few other mostly appearance options. Engine/trans mods never changed, those were based on if the car was going to be a base model, Formula, or T/A.
Ummm... 3 personal friends of mine have autos, and the 1 we are selling at the GM dealership I work at is an auto. I have seen more auto WS6 cars than 6-spds so.... yea.
I can start pulling production numbers if you want.
Actually... just in 02 its about half and half. Click here
Trust, its based on options. WS6 has nothing to do with motor/trans codes.WS6 RAM AIR COUPES 12,212 UNITS (16.9% OF PRODUCTION)
6,828 units had MN6 6-speed manual transmission
5,384 units had MX0 Automatic transmission
WS6 RAM AIR CONVERTIBLES 2,696 UNITS (3.7% OF PRODUCTION)
1,176 units had MN6 6-speed manual transmission
1,520 units had MX0 Automatic transmission
