    Hello everyone.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but I have a 2000 Grand Prix, and lately I've noticed the daytime running lights aren't working. I don't know if they both went out at the same time or not, but neither is working now. The regular headlights will come on either when it gets dark or they're turned on manually, and both the low and high beams are working.

Could this be a bulb issue....are different bulbs for the DRLs or do they use the same as the standard headlights on a lower power? If not that, what else could it be....a fuse maybe?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

The DRL's use the same lights. If they work normally any other time, I'm guessing that the relay could have gone bad. Most people disable the DRL anyway by unplugging the wiring from the relay. You can get to it by opening the little hatch at the left end of the dash. You can open the driver side door to see it. When I disabled mine, I removed that hatch and reached up from the underside of the dash to unplug the wires. I believe that there are a couple of relays there but I cannot remember what is what. You may just take a peek and see if anything is unplugged which I think is unlikely with how those connectors work.

Assuming nothing is unplugged, then is it probably a bad relay? If so that's probably a more expensive repair than I'd be wanting to get.

Since the lights work at night automatically or when you turn them on, I wouldn't worry about it. Many have it disabled anyway. If it is indeed the relay, I wouldn't think it would be that expensive. I just wouldn't. If you ever decide to get HIDs, you wouldn't want the DRL anyway.

Check the 10amp DRL fuse located in the fuse panel by the glove compartment.

Since I've been looking into my issue, I've come across a lot of info about people who want to disable the DRL's. Why is that? I actually like them....I think cars with lights on during the day are much easier to see. Maybe I am THAT old.

The biggest reason for disabling them are for HID's. I agree that having headlights on during the day does make cars more visible.
