I bought a 2006 Grand Prix for my wife to use as a work car last week and while trying to diagnose why the cruise control doesn't work I noticed that the hose/tube in the attached picture is cracked in a couple places where it connects to the motor. I brought it to autozone and the guy working the counter looked at me as if I brought in a piece of the Mars Rover. He finally got out of it by saying they don't carry the part and that I need to go to Napa, without ever telling me what the part is. I truly don't think he knew. The guy at Napa said he thinks it's a PCV hose but said that only dealerships would carry it. Can anybody tell me what exactly it is, or better yet a part # so I can order one? Is it true that I can only get it from a dealership shop? Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

That indeed is some sort of vacuum line/pcv hose and they are pretty much a dealer onl item. Otherwise you could just piece together your own line to repair it.

Likely that will not fix the CC issue though, that could be another problem.

It's the PCV hose. It would be dealer only. I no I have 1 or 2 but they are as old as yours. Could cause a check engine light.

I just ordered a new vacuum harness for an 2002. Different from what you need but dealer only. #24508742

Sorry i don't no the part number.

I just happened to stumble upon it while trying to scope out where the cruise connects to the throttle. I didn't think it contributed to the cruise issue, just figured I might as well replace it since it was broken. I'm not even sure where to begin with the cruise, the light on the speedo indicates that the cruise is set, the Driver Info Center states that the cruise is engaged but when I let off the gas the car gradually slows down to below the cruise speed that I set. The indicator lights stay on until I tap the brake pedal, so the car obviously thinks it is working properly. It's not a huge deal now as it is mostly driven in the city, but in 2 weeks we are taking it on a 500 mile road trip, would be nice to have cruise during that.

In the 04+ there's something weird that controls cruise. I wanna say the third brake lights or something weird like that

They really isnt a CC cable or box with 04+ cars as the throttle body is electronic.

I see you live close to me, I have a spare throttle body from a 07 sitting in my garage. You could have it if you wanted it, try swapping throttle bodies and seeing if it changes anything. It came from a supercharged car but I think everything is the same for throttle bodys on 04+ cars, bolt pattern and plug in.

EDIT: I looked it up, they are the same throttle bodies.

Yeah it's the third taillight, unfortunately I didn't get that lucky to be that easy. That is the first fix that is recommended if you Google "2006 Grand Prix Cruise Doesn"t Work." Looks like my issue will be more involved than that.

I might take you up on that 5Finger. I got bored yesterday and pulled my throttle body off to clean it. The build up in it was so bad it looked like somebody had used the Rhino Lining that people use in their truck beds to coat it. Made a world of difference in how the car runs.

OK, so cruise control is affected by more than a few things: brake switch, third brake light, torque converter, etc

That line is PCV valve vent line, and all it does is vent excess crankcase pressure into the intake. You can block that off at the intake side and let the valve cover side vent to atmosphere and nothing will change. If there is a leak you get a lean condition since the leak is after the MAF but before the TB.

EDIT: do you have a "brake switch b input circuit low" code stored? Doesn't throw a CEL.

Will do, maybe meet in the middle in Elk River or something. I will let you know tomorrow once my wife informs me of her plans for the day.

    yeah i make my own
i cut off the tb tube end and use reg hose to join it to an old 90* spark plug boot that i yank off a junk set of wires hanging around.

if you wanna get really fancy you can buy a short length of 3/8ths metal hardline but that just makes install more annoying than using regular 3/8ths rubber hose

cost like 2$ for the 1ft of rubber hose
