I Just have a few general questions. I'm looking to buy another car with the 3.8 motor probably 2001-2004 Prix or regal. From what i understand the transmissions are basically the same in the super and non supercharged besides the axle.

I have a 2001 non super 3.8 grand Prix that started making the usual whining when hot from what I believe bad solenoid. Then erratic shifting, (long shaft issue). I installed the transgo shift kit and have not had any more problems.

My questions are if I was to buy another car and the trans didn't display the trans issue when bought , would it still make sense to install the kit anyway?
Are the supercharged motors trans less common to have all these trans issues?

The transmissions are basically the same. Differences are in the drive/driven gears which the chain rides on. The output shaft is slightly different in HD, but most would never notice and the HD diff in the SC trans, which is why the pass axle needs to be shorter.

The shift kit is the same one as are the clutches, filters, etc etc etc etc. All the same issues are common to both HD and non HD
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks, i was hoping it wasn't the same. I saw a really clean car over the weekend. The trans fluid was clean but it was making the whining noise that is so common. It had 106,000 miles. I decided not to buy it. I didn't want those problems especially when its doing it from day one.

Was the whining coming from the drivers side or passenger side? Trans pump sounds just like the ps pump.

It was coming from the driver side, near the brake fluid reservoir. I always stick my ear to this area and listen. It got louder if you pushed on the throttle. The guy selling the car had no idea about the issue.

I have had 2 grand prix's and 1 regal that has did this and I always check that area when looking at the car.
