Hi guys, I'm new here, and I think the light output on these stock GP headlights is pretty poor overall, both on low and hi beams. I have 2 GP GTs, a 98 and an 01. Both are bone stock with the exception of a Pioneer iPod stereo and rebuilt trans in the 98.

I did a search on "headlights" and wound up reading a couple of threads on mods for HID and/or projector headlights. I also looked a little on eBay, but hard to tell what's quality stuff and what's a cheap ricer headlight that only looks blue when you turn it on at night....I'm not looking for the "ultimate" headlights, nor am I interested in spending a lot of time/money to get there.

So, my question is, what's the bang for the buck to increase light output on these cars? I have no problem adding a relay circuit from the battery if more power is needed, or replacing the entire headlight assembly if that's a better route, but I can't spend $400/car on parts. Does just going to a brighter bulb cause issues with the stock housing?

I changed the OEM bulbs in my 01 Suburban to Sylvania SiverStars and the change is barely noticable IMO. I get better nighttime vision from the PIAA 920 fog's in the airdam.

Or, should I leave the headlights alone and focus on the fog lights?

Thanks, I'll check out the Daniel Stern site. Can you recommend a good HID upgrade kit?

ebay has them. I got mine from ZZPerformance it was about $100. I like them, the only thing is you want to disable the DRL's and rewire the parking flash to the corner lights.

Interesting factoid.....the owner's manual for the 1998 specifies a 9006 for the low beam and a 9005 for the hi beam, but the 01 specifies a 9007 bulb for both low and hi beams. How do these eBay kits fit everything from 97-03?

Im pretty sure your owners manual fails. Look at the bulb itself on your car, if you have 2 seperate bulbs you have 9005 an 9006. If you have one single bulb with 2 coils you have 9007. 97-03 grand prix's have the same headlights and bulbs.

Fog lights will not make a difference they throw light right out infront of the car for bad weather driving. Drivings lights will help.

your truck there uses the 9005/9006 gps use 9007

Interesting.....the 01 is here in the driveway, I checked and it does have the 9007s, and I would agree I recall the 98 being the same. Not often you see an incorrect owner's manual.

Here's the manual for the '98:

It will be back home Friday.

Change the housings on the burban and you will notice a signifigant improvement, they need the reflectors and the clear smooth lenses to work the best.

Nice rod rack, who makes it?

That is what my silver stars look like in my Camaro.

House of HID I have never bought anything from them but they are a sponsor on this other website that I am on a lot. And I also have no idea what it takes to put hid's in something.
    2001 A4 Camaro B4C, 1.94 60ft - 8.48 1/8@84.13 - 13.17@104.29, should go faster with a better track and no ses light.
And now a 98 Grand Prix
