I went to program a key fob I got today for my 99 gtp. I shut all doors and pulled the key out, then the fuse. Put the key in and to acc, off, and back to it in less than 1 sec, but every time it just keeps chimming. Opening the door and closing makes no difference it just keeps chiming. I have went over the instructions several times and kept trying but still the same results. I even replaced the battery in the remote. The remote is a used one out of a 99 gtp. Any ideas?

You turned the key back and not forward right. That was my problem.

You have to turn the key backwards like Russosaur said. I tried like 3 times a couple months ago, then remembered and felt like a dumbass

I felt like a dumbass too, only after I killed my battery from. Cycling the fuel pump a bazillion times.

    ROFL.

You are following these directions exactly, correct?

    1. Remove the key from the ignition.

    2. Close all doors.

    3. Remove the "MALL PGM" fuse from the fuse panel. Use the legend on the fuse panel or
owner's manual to properly locate the "MALL PGM" fuse.

    4. Insert the key into the ignition, and turn to the ACC position.

    5. Turn the key to OFF and then back to ACC within 1 second.

    6. Open and close any vehicle door. A chime will be heard when the system enters into
    programming mode.

    7. Press and hold the remote LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
IMPORTANT: After 7 seconds, a chime may be heard confirming successful
synchronization. It is necessary to wait approximately 14 seconds for a second chime
    that will confirm successful programming.

    8. Repeat step 7 now for each additional remotes to be programmed including any existing
    remotes.

    9. Remove key from ignition.

    10. Install the "MALL PGM" fuse back into the fuse panel and test remote(s).

I'm not sure what it could be but I'm sure the chiming means something. Just don't know what.

Yup followed it exactly like that. It starts chiming right after step 5. Just chimes is a sequence over and over. Opening and closing the door does nothing. It just keeps chiming

while it's chiming have you tried to hold both buttons on the new fob and see if it'll program it?

Yup. Im starting to think there is a problem with the keyless entry itself. I don't know where to start though and I'm not paying a dealer to look at it.

And you have removed the MALL PGM fuse, not the MALL fuse, correct?

Dumb question did you look under the driver seat? The only reason I ask is because I found mine under my seat.

Last thing I can think of is to replace the Mall PGM fuse, open and shut all doors and trunk, then start over from square one. If that doesn't work, burn the ****er to the ground.
