I have a 2000 gtp. Left work two days ago and car made a nasty clunk and died. Now it won't start. I got it home last night and charged batt. Didn't help. Car will turn over just won't fire. I just pulled the plugs and in the front of engine the right plug was dry and in the back the left plug was dry. All others were wet with gas. I know I have compression just not sure how much and same for fuel. I need to try to find some gauges so I can check both fuel and compression.

Just throwing this on here to see if anyone has any other suggestions. All help is greatly appreciated cuz I'm kinda lost here.

Ill add too that the only things that have changed recently is about a month ago I put in a pcm from 3800 perf. And changed thermostat. Car is throwing no codes too.

Check for spark.. which is likely missing..cause you have fuel. That'll lead us toward your harmonic balancer and or belts and the crank sensor
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks bill I was hoping you'd comment. I did check for spark and I'm getting it outta every plug, wire, and coil. Car hasn't lost any fluids but does seem to be turning over a little slower than normal but thought that might be the battery wearing oit again from trying to start it so much.

Don't know about the clunk but a crankshaft sensor will keep it from starting.

Another thing is I've had a squeal for awhile but if I turn on the air or heat it would stop. Was told it is my ac pulley. Belts are both still turning while turning over so don't think any of my pulleys are seized up and both belts still nice and tight

Also noticed while trying to start the car and pumping the gas I hear a clunk that sounds similarto what I heard when the engine died

That's not a happy sound then. You need a helper..so you cna try and figure out where the clunk is.

Yeah just had the wife try and clunk is coming from left side of engine. Left as in if your standing in front of the engine looking at it. Still cant really tell exactly where clunk is but definatley left side of engine. Only clunks if your pumping gas though. Doesnt do it if your not pumping gas

Yeah I'm gonna run to the mechanic down the road and see if he will let me borrow a fuel pressure gauge. What should it be with the key turned on. Thanks again bill for all the help. Really glad we have ppl like you on here.

You should see around 40-45 psi with the key on, and it should stay there for a while. If it bleeds off that's an issue as well.

Alright. I know you need one now, and not in 5-7 business days, but they're about $32 on amazon for a pretty good one. I'm thinking of getting one.

Still haven't got to check fuel pressure but think I might have found problem. All pulleys are turning except for the ac pulley. It seems to be seized up and the belt is just spinning around it

The bearings locked up then, the A/c compressors are known for that. Well usually they make noise first then you replace them lol. If it's locked up you're going to need a new compressor. The outer bearings may be able to be replaced on their own but it's probably not worth it.

Yeah its been making noise for a couple years now but didn't do it all the so just kinda forgot about it. I've learned a lot off this forum but clearly still a noob lol. How hard is it to change and I think I can get to it by pulling splash guard on passenger side right?

I think so. When you say change it, you mean change the compressor or the bearing? I've taken compressors apart before, but not the same one that goes on our cars. You will have to get the system recovered to change the compressor, you will have to remove the line. I'm not sure if you can just change the bearing while on the car and leave everything else alone. It does take a special tool to hold the clutch still while you turn the bolt, but you probably could find a way to stop it from turning with something else.

By change it I mean the whole compressor not just the bearing.

Well then like I said, the system will have to be recovered. It's not hard to do, it's about as easy as it looks. I don't think there's a write-up for it around here
