Thread: 13.25 volts and it wont start, just ticks. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

so my car has been fine up until now. its a 99 gtp sedan. I drove it to my buddies house, parked it for about two hours, came out and it wouldn't start. It just makes a tik like the starter is frozen. Its got 13.25 volts at the battery but when i turn the key it does nothing. everything else works. It almost seems like the battery is dead but as i already said its not. It has been raining all day in my area, but i don't believe that's an effective variable. Lastly, When i jump it with either a box or another car it starts and runs fine. Could the battery be shot? any ides would be great. Thanks

does the voltage drop in your battery when you try to start it ? i would start with checking and cleaning your battery terminal connections really well.

no it doesn't, and i did. i even checked the water

points towards your battery , how low does the voltage drop when you try to start it ?

im not sure about how much it drops. Thats what i was thinkin, Is that something that would just go though? like with no warning?

i've seen batteries go all of a sudden , how low the voltage drops would tell alot. like sabre says a load test is ideal way to check it.

ill have to get that checked out tomorrow then. Lets just say it "passes" the load test. Then What?

i dont think it will. if all your doing is jumping it and it starts fine than it points to the battery or connection problems. how old is your battery ? what happens if you turn on the headlights and try to start it ?

they go out, whenever i turn everything on a get less power to the starter. hopefully it is just the battery. Honestly, idk how old it is. Thanks everyone for all your help.

i topped off the water last night, charged it all day, and now its good!!! got it load tested and thy said it was fine. Lets see how long it lasts now haha. Thanks for the help!

at least you got it running again. if all you did was charge it , and take it out and load tested ok and reinstalled , problem was most likely your connections were corroded.

You might consider inspecting the battery cables that connect to the starter. Had someone here have the same problem, and it turned out the nut was loose on the stud.
