Hello everyone, I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT.
This is my first post, and I am still trying to learn about how to repair my car. So far I have used the internet to find out that I had an oil leak from my valve cover, and replaced its gasket. Now I am moving onto my second issue with this vehicle, the AC fan. From what I have read here and many other places if the AC works on seting 5, but not 1-4 it is a resistor that is commonly the problem. My issue is slightly different, My AC used to work fine, then one day setting 1 and 2 went out. A good bit of time passed, and one day while idling with the Fan set on 3, it make a horrible sound, that I can not properly describe, but my untrained ears knew it was very bad. Immediatly after the sound it began to vibrate loudly, shaking the entire dash like a massage chair.
Shortly after this (hours or weeks? im not sure) setting 3 stopped working. It still vibrates loudly and puts out ice cold AC, but now it only works on settings 4 & 5.
I was hoping for some advise on how to effectively diagnose my issue, since money is extremely tight and taking it to a shop is not an option for me. Also, I really enjoy learning about anything I own when it breaks, and fixing it. I have no formal education regarding anything outside of agriculture, but I have taught myself everything I have needed to know so far to fix almost every problem I have encountered IE: Building a PC, gutting & rewiring my house, fixing my tractor and the list goes on (Thanks to the great people online!). So any advise on what it may be, or how to diagnose it myself would be much appreciated! I could take a Video of the sound, but I do not know if Vbulletin will host files that large these days.
Thanks in advance, Adrian
I hope I posted this in the right subsection!!!
