Hey! New here. Just bought a 2005 Grand Prix yesterday. I was excited about the remote start... Tried it and every time I use it, the alarm goes off!

At first the remote was not working at all, and after cracking it open, I found the battery was swollen and it popped the battery holder off the circuit So i re-soldered that. The buttons work about half the time. But My main concern is the remote start sets off the car alarm.

    Anyone know why?

Not sure I just bought the car.It does not say anything about Pontiac though so possibly. But it looks legit. It has the same Start image as the actual key hole does. (A little arrow going in a circle)

EDIT: What if it is an after market one? I see it has to be programmed, but wouldn't that make it not work at all? Everything works expect the remote start.

Mine looks just like this one:

We see this issue several times a week.

One or two things have happened. Or both.

    1. Battery is dead/the solder joints on the battery holder have broke.

    2. The actual rubber pad is bad. The metallic black dots physically look fine but the coating wears off and will cause the horn to sound Instead of a start up.

We sell them at my work but not online or anything. I wanna say we buy them at replacement remotes. com just google search it.

Just a side note if you have a check engine light then remote start will not work

Thanks! I will try and order it then. The battery holder did brake off but I soldered it back on. Thanks! I'll let you know if it works.

ok here is an update... I read somewhere to try and hold down on the lock button and the start button at the same time. and to my surprise it worked. Not all the time since the buttons are wearing out...

but my question is what can I do to permanantly fix this? is it something with the remote or the car?

    It's the rubber pad.

I use contact cleaner (or rubbing alcohol) to clean the back side of the pad where it'll hit the board. They do get gooped up over time.

On remotes...if someone needs a shell or remote..I have a pile
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Cleaning the rubber pads on these versions of the keyfob will not fix the problem.

It doesn't hurt to clean the board but it will not solve the problem. Thus the reason for all these replacements

Ok so I ordered a replacement shell and pad and it came in yesterday. The buttons works wonders now. However, I still have to press the Lock and Start at the same time or the alarm will go off. And I cannot turn the car off. If I attempt to turn it off, the alarm goes off. If I try and hold the lock and press the start to shut the engine off, nothing happens!

What can I do to fix this?

Your circuit board has issues then. Should be the press of lock and then hold remote start for 3-5sec.
