A couple days ago i got into my car and i got the "check gas cap" on the display. so i did what it told me to and checked it. i unscrewed it and then screwed it back in but nothing changed. i've checked it out online and most people say it could either be as simple as the gas cap or the EVAP solenoid canister. i'm sure other people have had this problem so i figured i'd see what everyone else started off with.

try a new gas cap first.

Getting it scanned will give you a better idea on whats going on.Then once you find out,you won't waste money on the wrong part.Anymore problems just ask.

I got this same message yesterday in my '04. Same thing, checked it, unscrewed it and screwed it back on, even had to fill up. Still getting it. No CEL, just the DIC message. I'm going to try replacing the cap. Does anyone make one that tethers to the car the way the original did? Dealership?

ive heard of people greasing the rubber part of the cap that seals to the fill tube on the car. if it still says check gas cap, it could be the vent in the gas cap is bad. or a evap leak.
