Well, decided to step into the modding game. Ordered some SD headers and im preparing to pulley down to a 3.4 after i buy some colder plugs and thermo. I'll need someone in the tri-city area in Michigan to come help me out. How much do tunes usually cost? Planning on staying at a 3.4 and then possibly cam it this summer when i pull the tranny to harden some parts.
    Anyone fit the description here?

I do tuning in flint. You probably dont need to tune 3.4 and headers though...

A tune can make fast cars slow and slow cars fast.... Took my buddies GP from 8+ degrees of kr and always losing to me in races to 0 kr and damn near beating me.... a 3.4 pully is right on the edge of needing a tune.... your call.

Maybe I'll just do everything at once and tune when I install my cam. I just don't want to blow up my engine.

You only need to tune things if you change the injectors/maf sensor.

Can you explain this to me? I figured running a cam like the vs would mess something up without tuning. Won't i be running rich with a 3.4 and no tune? Or does the PCM adjust for this by itself

I would assume that you are going to have to get a tune running a 3.4 on a gen V

A tune is needed for many reasons.... Biggest being making timing and fueling safe for the power levels your at.... 12.1 fuel ratio might be fine at stock but definately is not ok at 400hp.... and other things like stock torque management and traction control make your car go crazy lean when they activate.... this is fine at stock power levels but is definately not ok at 300+ hp.... not to mention stuff like how the stock tune leans out the fuel mix the longer your at wot.... again this is kinda sorta ok stock but when your making big numbers its bad to go lean in the middle of a pull.... and then theres stuff like speed limiters and transmission settings. Trans settings alone can completely change the feel of a car.... If you ask me its almost always worth getting a tune once you start dropping pullys and beating on it.

I'm in Saginaw. nice to see some more around the area. Horizon is your best bet for a tune.. I had plans to have him do it but I'm currently using hptuners to tune the car. Very noticable difference from just what I've had time to do so far.

Stock cars run in the mid to low 11s. I have tuned a few nice cars and left 99%of the fuel and timing alone.. the other 1% ichange is just related to removing some safety stuff. Trans tuning is fun but a shift kit will do the same.
