this would just be for starters before i can get a full catless system.

I've seen this done before and i was just curious if anyone on here has done it? It sounds really sweet, just wondering f this would rob any power.. or any advantages, disadvantages?

Been there, done that. Do a set of headers and down pipe(with or without cat) leave the ressy on amd if you want sound then swap the mufflers. Other than that, the GP exhaust isgreat just the way it is. Don't waste your time or money running straight pipe.

so it sounds like the best start is with a DP and maybe a muffler swap.. so should i go 2.5 or 3 inch? w/ both gaskets?

this may be a retarded question, but can i get a u-bend delete without getting rid of the resonator? Everyone seems to talk about them as if they are the same thing, i'd rather keep the resonator in if possible, as i'm not really trying to get any drone or rasp while tweeking my exhaust. :/

    ZZ Performance

You can get that and it welds right to the stock piping. Or you can have a local exhaust shop just make you one like I did mine. He cut the threads out of the U-Bend from the o2 Sensor and welded the piece with the threads connected back into the straightpipe.

A buddy of mine had a bone stock '97 and we would run all the time just for grins. I got the U-Bend put in (he would barely pull on me each time we raced) and it ended up on me nosing on him each time after that

And for $40, you can't complain, and yes you can keep the resonator also.

If it were me, I'd just save and get the full 3" DP/Cat Delete/U-Bend Delete Combo. That way you can kill three birds with one stone IMO.

^That was going to be my suggestion,DP. Like you said, it would kill more with one purchase and would also be a supporting mod for anything in the future. No sense in spending your money twice.

I did the DP without the cat. It sounds pretty good (i left the resonater) but i left the u-bend factory. My question is After 3months of running this, the past week my SES (service engine soon) light came on. It is the O2 sensor after the cat. any way around this or should i try cleaning the sensor or getting a o2 eliminator. THANKS

    Wait...what?

Why in God's name would you have a shorty DP welded to the u-bend????

that is probably creating MORE KR than before since all that air is trying to get out even faster with the 3" DP and the U-Bend is still there. Do the car a favor and get rid of the damn thing. The whole point of ANY exhaust work is to get rid of the u-bend FIRST!!

damn blue! the second one sounds NICE!!! i was actually thinking of either 40's or dynomax.. but not sure which dynomax tho..

and the raspiness in the first vid is mainly from the XPcam huh?

BTW i wanna thank everyone else yall helped me out alot.

next 2weeks ima order my full 3" catless DP and maybe some mufflers and get a custom 309stainless built for the mid section.. seems cheaper to do it all like that.

Just get you a down pipe(cated or not, up to you). That'll take care of your u-bend and be a support mod for anything you do in the future to your motor. Leave the ressy like it is also.

No, the rasp is from the lack of a resonator. The second video is all the same mods with just the collector welded and a stock resonator welded in.

The U-Bend is GM's stock placement for the o2 Sensor. If you get a "U-Bend Delete" Section of pipe, or a full DP setup then you will just remove the o2 from the U-Bend and install it in either part you buy, and yes it will be straight-piped...

KR doesn't always mean bad gas mileage. KR leads to things such as loss in performance or chipped pistons. Basically Knock Retard causes predetonation in the cylinders, causing one or more of your pistons to top out and smack the piss out of the head. Which leads to it chipping, or in my case, shattering the skirt

KR does not cause detonation. It is the engine's response to detonation to protect itself.

That helps. I just didnt know what the KR had to do with the u-bend and no cat. but i guess its from the o2 sensor code. Apparently unplugging the sensor is better than having a bad sensor. Like i said before i lost so much mileage with the sensor plugged in and no CAT, Im guessing the car was running rich. (my guess) So today i unplugged before i left and ran around doing my errands, and its back to normal. Does that make sense, unplugged or no o2 is better than one still running without the cat...
