Dealing with the infamous upper manifold leak and the car has been sitting for a week with the battery disconnected. Notice this morning that the drivers rear window is about half way down and I KNOW all the windows were up.

Pulled the inner panel off the door and see that there is a stainless steel cable in there that is loose. I can actually move the window up and down by hand. Cable does not appear to be broken and looks like it is still connected on each end. What to do???

i believe that there is a little plastic clip on the inside of the regulator that can break and leads to this problem, if that is the case then your best bet would be to tear apart the regulator and replace that clip

I have been messing with mine for the last two days now. The cable was cross threaded inside the motorized mechanism, the cable was disconnected from the plastic clip stlomo_gtp was describing above and the rubber track inside the door was off.

Trying to fix it is a nightmare and purchasing the whole new mechanism is faster and easier.

However i like to see how everything works and adore the feeling of fixing it myself so ill continue to try until i head back to school tomorrow. [I think i may have got it ]

I had this same problem on my car, except it was my RR. Unfortunately the plastic that holds the end of the cable is part of the slide that actually holds the glass and it is designed poorly and breaks, there are no clips to replace. You are looking for a replacement window regulator. I got my replacement from Auto Zone so I could get the lifetime warranty. But they are way cheaper on eBay.

Easy to do, I'm sure you can handle it. A helpful hint, manually lift the window all the way up and get some packaging tape and put 2 or 3 strips on the outside of the window to hold it up while your changing your regulator.

Also make sure to do this after you unbolt the two 10mm bolts from the window as they are un-assessable when the window is rolled all the way up.

It isn't worth messing with. If it derailed in the first place, it is worn out enough to head south again. They are only like $150 new from CarQuest and AutoValue.

Yea i have been pricing them out and i think you can get one on ebay for only like $60. I was looking at one for my RR door in my 99 GTP so not sure if prices are different for newer years or different doors.

Yea i'm doing th same with mine. Cost is about $62 shipped. I messaged the seller and he said that they pay for return shipping if they send the wrong part. And the warranty covers any defects in the product as well as anything that may malfunction a year after sale.

Do you have the link the the person/company selling them for $50 shipped?
