Hard starting problem.... but easier with remote starter??

Hello everyone. I have a 00 GTP and recently had work done to replace the LIM gasket, valve cover gaskets, TB gasket, SC gasket, O-rings, coolant elbows, plugs, wires, and fuel filter.

About a week after the work was done, the car developed a hard starting problem. On the first attempt, it will crank for about 6-8 seconds before it will start, but most of the time it won't crank untill the second attempt, and will crank right up, a couple seconds at most.

With a gauge hooked up, I turned on the key and the pressure jumped right to 55 psi, and then dropped down to about 25 and then a very very slow decline. I'm not sure if I'm correct but I thought I remembered reading to test the FPR by pulling off the little hose on it, if it doesn't release any fuel out, it's good. I did that and nothing came out.

The weird part is if I use the remote starter(which I mostly do now as it's been about 2 weeks), it'll start up on the first attempt after 3-5 seconds. Why does it always start on the first attempt with the remote starter, and why always seconds sooner than with the key?

And what is the problem, is it the fuel pump?

If you are getting 25psi and its not holding pressure I would say fuel pump. Unless you have a leak in the system. Turn the key on so the fuel system is pressurized, then look for leaks. Look around the fuel filter because that was changed. The one way valve in the pump could also be bad causing it to bleed pressure back into the tank.

If the pump primes and the pressure goes straight down to 25, I'd say its the FPR, it doesnt have to be wet or smell like fuel to be bad.

Try doing what the remote does for you.

It turns the key to on, waits a second then cranks the starter.

Which bypass did you use with your remote starter? It could be an immobilizer issue.

How can I go about testing the FPR?

I've tried priming the fuel pump with the key on/eng off for 2 seconds, 3 seconds, 5 seconds, and seconds. It makes no difference.

And I'm not sure what bypass was used with the remote starter. My brother had it installed years ago. I bought the car from him about 3 months ago.

If it starts perfectly with the R/S and not with the actual key, chances are, it's the R/S wiring or the immobilizer that's causing the issue.

Put your key into the cylinder, turn the ignition on(don't crank) and remote start it. if it starts flawlessly, your question is answered.

I tried turning the key on/eng off waiting, then using the remote starter and got the same results.

I also hooked up an actron scan tool and watched the ST TRIM and LT TRIM and they stayed within the parameters. Also with the car running, I removed the vacuum hose from the FPR and waited a few minutes and no fuel ever released from it, and also no smell.

How else can I test the FPR?

And how else can I see if the immobilizer for the remote starter is the problem? Or is the above post the only testing method? Am I correct in my understanding of what the immobilizer is?.... It's a bypass that's needed if you have a chip in your ignition key?

I meant turn the ignition on and Keep it on, then remote start. This way, both keys are being read at crank time. The immobilizer in GM vehicles is referred to as a "passlock" system. And if activated, it will disrupt the fuel pump from working.

That's what I did. I just said "key on/engine off" because some people refer to that position of the key in the ignition as that.

Oh ok, just making sure you understood, now what do you mean same results? started with or without problem?

It starts with the same problem, it just doesn't take as long. With the key, it takes about 8-10 seconds of cranking for it to start. With the remote, it takes about 4-6 seconds.
