My car has killed a few single turbo 900+hp supras... its still on a stock motor.... There really is no limit to these until you max the heads out.

The problem with people around here is they always have crappy transmissions and no ability/common sense to put real fuel systems in to support the power.

One way to make more power out of our 3800s is to stroke it out and then build it ground up with a bottom end, top end and whichever force induction you use, the power would be much greater. And obviously you would make more power with a turbo......

After you do that, with the 4t65e-HD built to its highest performance potential, you'll be making nice power. Not 1000hp/9kRPMs power, but you will be making power.
And honestly, if we're not using our cars for strickly racing, then all this would be unnecessary, Bc at the end of the day with the few mods we have available for our cars, these 3800's make a decent amount of power for any horsepower enthusiast out there....
Not your average grocery getter, but theres always at least two things on the list.... 10w-30 Castrol Titanium and Shell 91 premium mixed with a lil 100 octane racing gas......

    Where have you been?

You don't need to stroke the bottom end to make more than enough power to nuke any 4t65e.

    Decent for any?

What if you want to make 1200-1600 WHP?

I have never even heard of anyone actually stroking a 3800. I know they sell a stroker kit for them to make it like a 4.2 or somewhere around there but I have never actually seen one on a car or even heard discussion of someone doing one in a build thread. And there IS a decent amount of mods for a 3800. Not as much as an LS1 for instance but we still have a lot of things we can do. About the only thing that keeps us from making crazy power is the transmission.

    Its been done.

But clearly they didn't make enough power to merit the investment otherwise they'd be the record holders for boosted power/et's.

a shortened stroke lower compression motor would be fun to push lots of boost, but i bet it would be an enormous turd out of boost.

Built 4.2 with big heads/cam and a 88 would make some serious power.
It'd have to be in a RWD car though.

Naw, i was just making an suggestion and throwing some ideas out there. Every motor and tranny has a limit to it. But as i mentioned, our 3800s will make plenty of power if modded right. As we know, these 3800s are quick out the box so it doesnt take that much to make it even faster.....Hey our motor doesnt make 1000hp or rev to 9krpms but we gotta love 3800s for what they are.......

That is pretty slow for a boosted motor, but you have to take into consideration that its a factory boosted motor and nothing about it was built for performance up to our standards anyway. Newer motors today are way more sophisticated and as we know most of them are direct injection which means their compression ratio is much higher than ours. Man, if our motor had the same compression and precision as these newer motors, and after adding this very same blower genIII/genIV I think we would be very happy with the results. But Unfortunately, with our motor we are stuck with the now aged technology of the long time running 3.8L engine......

If our engines had factory ported cylinder heads, an intercooler and slightly more aggressive cam. It would have stomped all over the corvette of the day and broken the transmission instantly.

And none of that is "technology".

Hell, they turbo'd a 3800 in the 80's with no tech.

That 3800 had a real transmission though

If gm did it again the least they could do would have been either turbo or IC from the factory... most now days are BOTH...
