So how do you remove the ashtray. Console is out and being painted but not the ashtray yet.

If your wanting the whole sha-bang then once the main dash trim bezel is removed, then the ash tray is screwed into the dash much like the radio and HVAC units are. 2 or 3 screws and that sucker is out.
I don't smoke and don't have a use for it, so I removed my unit all together.

I just put my gauges in under it....
there are actually 2 gauges in there now...
I read this and thought....hmmm I have an ashtray? I never once looked for it. I dont smoke. In my other cars, we use the ashtray for change. But the gp has that little spot just right for my change.
IndeedSS show us pics when your done
I took my ashtray out last night to replace the light bulb. I little more difficult than I thought it would be. I pulled the main dash trim off and sure enough there were 2 screws right in the front holding the ashtray assembly in place. I removed those and figured it would slide right out.... wrong. Still held tightly in place. After some investigating, I spotted two more screws that go in straight up into the bottom of the ashtray assembly back inside the cubby hole. Mine were partially covered enough that I couldn't get a socket or nut driver on them. I used an open end wrench, but once they were out about halfway, they hit the plastic trim of the cubby hole. I ended up having to remove the center trim piece that is the cubby, around the shifter, cup holder, and goes all the way back to the center storage bin. Once I popped it out, there was no problem getting a nut driver on those two to get them out and back in.
Seemed like a lot of work just to replace a little 194 bulb.
