so I installed fuel pump and hotwire kit today and I'm having an issue I have read about several times

the car will fire up run fine and than sputter out after about 3 seconds

8. Locate the Fuel Pump Resistor (on inner fenderwell behind battery on GT/GTP and behind headlight
on Regal GS) and disconnect connector. Attach jumper connector included in the kit.

this is the step I think im having issues with I had just unplugged the harness located directly behind the battery

wondering if the resistor I need to disconnect is located elsewhere or in the fuse box

so out of curiosity I plugged the harness directly behind the battery on the fenderwall back in and the car is running fine.....
can anybody tell me what exactly the fuel pump resistor does cause it seems like car won't run without it

is it possible my ground on the hotwire kit is bad and the fuel pump resistor connection is keeping it grounded out?
allowing it to run

You need to use the jumper that came with the kit. It triggers the fuel pump speed control into high

now why would they not put that in instructions....how exactly is that little thing assembled and whats gonna happen driving it without it disconnected?

No negative effects. It was in my instructions. Did you get the Caspers kit?

yeah just says to disconnect the old one and add jumper I pretty much copy pasted the instructions in original post.

if you could pm or post a pic of how you got your assembled it would help a great deal

All you do is plug the little jumper piece into the connection on the car side of the harness and you're good

my jumper connector consist of about 6 pieces
2 platic harnesses that interlock two securing rubber gromit type things and than 2 wire connectors that would appear to go over a pin
gonna link a pic here

think I'm missing something here cause the resistor harness looked like it had 3 pins figured this was for hooking up a booster

whats kinda funny to me is receipt said 3800 casper hotwire kit
bag said ls1 fuel pump rewire kit but instructions inside listed all vehicles it could be used for and 97-03 grand prix was there

http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/...Code=3800_Fuel
this is the instructions I was going off of and came printed out for me in bag

now I completely understand assembling this might just be general or common knowledge but it seems a little more prudent to inform someone of wtf this is rather than illustrate unplugging harnesses....

Beez...

Take out the fuel pump speed relay (info is on the inside of your relay center cover), bend either pin 85 or 86 so it won't interfere with anything in the box and put it back in. Poof.. you are done.

I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

well I had seen that bypass.
still a little pissed they sent me the wrong part with the kit .
do pumps ever get stuck in low speed because of this resistor I have heard of them starting and killing a car because it has blown
but I'm just wondering if its possible the car would start and run fine just not kick the pump into high speed for me at higher revs
en route to parts store to grab a fuel pressure tester hopefully the resistor was my misfire component as well
I'm sorry officer I didnt know I couldn't do that

That pic you posted is a pic of a connector to wire in if you wanted a boost a pump. I'll snap a pic of what you should use. It's possible you are missing the required piece.

I've never heard of a pcm not kicking the pump in, it's based on TPS IIRC.

yup they didn't give me the piece this was their response nice to know Im not nearly as retarded as my car would have me believe

Hi Robert,

Spoke with Caspers and they agreed with your approach of bending the tab on the relay to bypass the resistor. Since the current for the pump is coming through the bypass kit and the old pump circuit is only there to trigger a relay, then bending the tab is the easiest way to get the job done.

I’ll be working with them on future kits to include the bypass connector mentioned. We had had it in older kits, but since the resistors went away after 1999 cars, it was omitted in recent batches.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to email or call.

Thanks!

Subject: recent purchase casper wiring kit

so I was able to get everything installed but am having an issue with step 8

8. Locate the Fuel Pump Resistor (on inner fenderwell behind battery on GT/GTP and behind headlight
on Regal GS) and disconnect connector. Attach jumper connector included in the kit.

after wiring everything up starting at the rear and working the slack to the hood and than mounting fuse holder and alternator wire the only pieces left in the kit
were 6 components im sending a link to my photobucket

now I thought this was for a booster hookup but figure I must be wrong as of now the car starts and runs but it seems like I could be doing some sort of damage by driving it so was gonna wait to hear back from a member of your staff before proceeding

So my questions are

the fuel pump resistor is just a harness behind the battery running up from the passenger side of the front bumper. is this correct?
am I missing a part of the assembly?
is there anyway you could send or link me a pic of the pieces shown assembled?
I'm sorry officer I didnt know I couldn't do that

Here's what the jumper that came with my kit looked like. You can also make one of these by clipping the resistor side of the harness and using an all weather crimp to crimp the wires together.

BTW..if you plan the relay pin bend as a long tern thing. Don't bend it. Cut it off. Little dremel wheel works like a champ.

ps.. told ya so.

The picture says 97-00. Will this not work for an 02 GTP?

Old thread but I too am having issues with the Casper Fuel pump re-wire.

I'm not sure if it's the re-wire but the pump never primes.
I have the power ran to the back of the alternator, put the ground in the back by the fuel pump with a self tapping screw.
All the plugs are connected.
I am using this connector since I'm using a after market pump.
http://www.casperselectronics.com/ca...product_id=995

Thought it could be the fuel pump resistor, but I can't even find mine so did the relay tab bend but pump still won't prime.

I still have my ZZP re-wire hooked up and pump works with it. Thats ran to the stock wiring so that doesn't explain much.
Don't know what else to do?

Thanks
Steven
