Thread: Gas gauge works then doesn't...?

For a while my gas gauge has been mostly reading full, even though it isn't. Sometimes it fluctuates a little but I never know what the level is. So for the most part it usually just stays "full". I always have to rely on the trip counter. Now is this a common problem? Is it most likely a short, loose connection; or is it maybe something more serious, such as the fuel gauge sender unit? Any ideas?

I had the same problem until i had ZZP install their SSM90 kit along with a couple other things. I mentioned the same problem you are talking about and they were able to fix it. I don't want to tell you the wrong thing since i am not totally sure how they fixed it. Email ZZPerformance and ask them about it. They will be able to tell you a better, more precise answer. thank you! hopefully they wouldn't mind describing what it is/how to fix it. i'll see what I can find out!

bear with me guys, im a little new here. but how complicated and expensive is a job like that? im pretty sure there is an access panel under the trunk liner (giving access to the pump and the sender) so i dont have to drop the tank. but anything else I should know? thanks for the reassurance thus far. minor i know but it still pisses me off.

there is a video on youtube where a guy does one on a Bonneville (YouTube - Pontiac Bonneville Fuel Sender Replacement -- PART 1) I've never done one (but I need to) so I can't say it applies to Grand Prix's but it will probably give you a general idea, I'd think anyway.
