So my fiero (2.5 4 cylinder) had a bad knock when i bought it. You could hear it over the exhaust which was totally broken in half. So it was pretty loud. Anyways i didnt really care at the time because i planned to swap a 284 Getrag and a 3800 into it. Well no times have change and i have a few shortcomings in my wallet so i decided just to tear the motor apart and fix it to put back in and sell. Well when i tore it apart i was expecting a rod bearing to be spun but there wasnt. The bearings did just fall out tho so obviously theyd been hot but other than that looked good. The main bearings also look good. The pistons dont have much wear on the skirts at all and the cylinders are smooth and there is not ring ridge at all. There was a bit of play between the crank psproket and camgear but i don't think that would make a rod knock noise. The only 2 things i did find where 3 broken top piston rings and a bunch of metal chunks on the screen of the pick-up tube. So any ideas on what the knocking could be.
