    Hey

So my wipers stopped working, They would'nt move at all so i tried taking it apart to see if i could find an issue. Nothing, so i figured the wiper motor is done, So i pulled a motor from a junker and took it to a shop to install. They installed the motor and said the wipers wont park and ill have to buy a new wiper transmission. They said $450 with install, WTH are they talking about? is there an easy fix to this?

Or..you could read up on the tab that usually causes the parking issue. I can't think of a recent thread..but with winter coming..it's common.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

theres a tab you need to bend back, ice bends the tab back and then they work but wont park in the down position.

theres a how to here somewhere.

K just got the car back, The guy on the phone was wrong apparently, Its not that the wipers wont park, They still dont move at all, The mechanic i spoke with said the pivot points on the wiper transmission are all seized, Because the pivots are steel and the shafts are aluminum it causes the metal to oxidize and turns into an almost lock-tight seal on the pivot points. So he said replacing it is the only way to fix it. Ever hear of this before?

ive never done on on a w body, but have in lots of other cars and trucks, its not that hard to change in most cases.

the part where the wiper arms bolt on has to come off and then sometimes a center mount point and bolted to the motor it self. all the plastic cowl needs to be removed to get to it. fairly easy to change.

you may even be able to take yours out, spray the moving joint with penetrating oil and work the parts by hand to free them up.

Uh.. I supposed it's possible (disregard that Scott posted before me, I'll delete his post so I'm ahead of him again) Guess that means he tested the motor and it's good..but the trans is bad..odd.

I'd probably roll on over to the shop to have him show me that they are seized.

this thread shows how the cowl is clipped on,http://www.grandprixforums.net/water...-fix-6961.html the driver side you need to take the wiper arms off first. you pop the caps off, under the cap is a nut, take that off, now you need to pop the arm off, they are on a tapered shaft. i used a hammer and used the claw side to pop it up, do this away from the windshield as it can and will break. be careful.

    *update*

So i pulled out the whole assembly, The Wiper transmission was seized, The pivot point on the passenger side was sealed in rust, even in a vice i could not get it to move. I soaked it in CLR overnight, Took it apart, Greased it and put it back together, Moves freely. So if your wipers are not working and you dont think its the motor, Pull the transmission out and try to move it. As far as difficulty goes i would say its easier than changing brake pads and i have no idea why i took it to a shop to replace the motor . I could seriously put a new wiper motor in that car in under 30 min.
