I just took ownership of a 2005 Grand Prix GT and had a few questions for the experts here - as a brief background Ive owned a '91 GP and '98 GP GTP so Im happy to be back in a GP

I sold my '02 BOnneville for the GP and the 3800 Series II engines had problems with the UIM and LIM gaskets. The '05 GP has a Series III 3800, were the UIM and LIM gaskets updated in this model or do I have to keep an eye on this problem? My GP has 88K miles on it.

I have 3 key remotes - 1 works, 1 is marked as not working, and the last one doesnt appear to work with a fresh battery in it. Is there something that needs to be done or can be done to kickstart these remotes back to life or do I need to go the eBay route for a backup remote?

I see there is a 'driver information' center in the center stack - however I dont see much 'info' available! I can get the odometer and 'trip' but thats it (alerts come up) - any way to get this thing to show like outside temperature, tire psi, avg mpg,etc....?

I have a sunroof that has a rattle either in the trim piece in the headliner or the 'shade' that you can close. This pretty common and any solution to making this thing be quieter?

Mechanically everything seems to be working fine - anything I need to keep an eye on or think about doing before something goes bad?

    Thanks in advance!

you can try some soldering on the remote that doesnt work that might do the trick.

and just play around with the driver info center you should find the stuff you are looking for. and the outside temp should be in one of the bottom corners of the screen.

Ive read somewhere else that my model year Grand Prix had a '3 button DIC' and a '5 button DIC' - mine is the 3 button and probably explains why there is very little information available.

Anyone know if I can upgrade to the 5 button and what additional items that might display?

Ok I found an answer to the 5 button question - it has all the stuff one would expect in a DIC which the 3 button does not (crazy that would be an option)

Anyhow someone on eBay is selling the 5 button DIC with trim piece together for $288 - beyond what I want to pay. You can do it yourself buying the DIC for ~$80 but you then need to do some wire clipping and also cut holes in the dash for the 2 extra buttons.

Ill check my phone for temp

I loved my 02 Bonneville, however the UIM/LIM issue hit along with Strut/Shock/Rear Brakes and Rotors all at the same time. Estimates I got were over $4k to get everything fixed so it was time to say goodbye

    Parts for all that
    Upper $80
    Lower gaskets $50
Call it $150 including coolant and elbows

Struts/mounts/shocks.. probably about $300 for all of it

    Brakes.. another $250ish ..

So you had some decent money in the parts, but the labor they were raping you on. I'd suggest looking around at more places next time. Cause that place was hosing you bad.

I checked online and could get all the parts for about $800 - the UIM/LIM job is about 4 hours from what Ive heard - but at the end of the day I wasnt going to get all that work done for $2k - my shade tree mechanic wasnt available and the '05 Grand Prix became available - Im still in a Poncho though!

If you switch to a 5 buttom DIC, your milage will change to whatever the miles on the 5 button are.

So if you want it to be the same when you swap them, you need to have a dealership change it.

Uggg, really? So I guess a reprogramming is required which Dealerships love to charge $$$$ for............thanks for the heads up as I was just about to make a bid on one.
