So the shifter has been acting up, I hit the brake and push the shifter release button and nothing, won't come out of park. I hear the relay under the dash clicking but it won't come out. After a minute it releases. Of course it acted fine the last 2 days, days I was gonna bring it into the shop. But leaving work today it took 5 f'in minutes to get it into drive. So, I'm not sure what the availability of the part is, I have to check with my parts guys tomorrow(I'm a service advisor at a Chevy dealer), I'm thinking the solenoid on the shifter is just about done for.

My question is, IF the shifter is locked how do I get it out of park using the shifter bypass slot thing on the side? Do I stick something down there and wiggle it around until it unlocks the shifter? If I can't get the part is there a way to just get rid of this stupid design? I don't care if it causes the shifter to be able to be shifted out of park without the brake, I'm the only one that drives me car.

    Thanks guys.

yeah pop that cap off, stick a pen in the hole, but be gental, its a plastic lever your hitting, push down, it will un lock the shifter.

if you remove your console, you may find the wires messed up. or the solenoid has gone bad.

same thing happened to me probably 7 months ago take apart the center console there is a plastic tab thing in there push it to the side and pull the shifter out of park. then jamb a small piece of wood or metal in between the plastic tab and where it connects to the shifter gears whatever you wanna call them. move shifter back and forth make sure it dont come out. it should hold you up for a while mines working fine. sure its not the proper way but it works.

So I have this same issue. After isolating it and inspecting all the wires, I believe the solenoid is shot. Is that piece replaceable itself? Could it be the key lock cylinder that is the problem?

Right now I have a zip tie as a fix. It's cheap and effective but not exactly ideal. Perhaps that is the best fix for this...

Should mention...I checked the BTSI fuse and it was fine. Also, my key is not getting stuck (knock on wood).

Another member suggested I look into the shifter knob not being all the way down, so I will be doing so tomorrow.
