    I have an 04 GTP...

Traction control was acting funny for a couple of days. I would get in the car and the light would be on the cluster, telling me that TC was off. While I was driving, the light would turn off, then I would hear the beep as it comes back on - it would go on and off on and off, especially during the first few minutes that I was driving the car - then never heard anything again at highway speeds.

After those two days passed, the light never came on again and I assumed that the traction control was on and problem somehow worked itself out...

Until... I was sitting in traffic and decided that I might as well multitask and wipe down the center console area. In cleaning, I hit the TC button and was shocked when I didn't hear the beep that always follows, letting me know the TC is off. - nothing at all. I hit it again... Nothing... again and again.... nothing.

SO... Either the TC is stuck ON... which seems most likely because no lights are popping up - and lights on the dash will only tell you when it is OFF...

OR... it is just insane and the button is broke? Something in the button was causing it to turn on and off? on and off? ... like some kind of short or something? and now with the TC on the button is officially broken, and incapable of turning the TC off?

    I'm confused!!!...

I guess one way to find out if it is on or off is to step on the gas and see what kind of chirp I get... I always got a nice sweet one with TC on... and an over-dramatic one when it was off.

    Perhaps I'll try that tomorrow.

ANYWAY - anyone experience such issues with their TC?

I know the TC we had in the Grand Am was junk.

If there's a problem with the TC system, the Trac Off light will come up with the ABS light. If the light comes on by itself, it has been turned off.

Right I understand that... so my guess is there is something going on with the button and my trac is just permanently on. That doesn't bother me - I live in New England so I'll never complain about traction control...

I'm just hoping there isn't something actually wrong with the system itself that is causing this.

    Time will tell..

My 2000 GTP has been doing the exact same thing lately. It has been very cold out, and sometimes when I turn the car on, the ABS and trac off light are both on. And I can clearly tell trac is off by driving. The only solution I've found is to turn the car off and on the restart, it usually doesn't give me a problem. Anyone know whats going on?

Same year and model for me.

I had this issue and it took me a week to figure it out. I left a large Burger King Drink in the cup holder and the sweat from the cup actualy dripped down and got under the control knob. I was sitting in a parking lot and it kept going on and off. When I got it home I pulled the switch and there was condesation in the switch. After cleaning it out all was good.

    This is possible.

Yeah, the problem no longer exists. Mine was the same issue - condensation down under the button.

All in all, the overall TC system in the 04+ seems to be less trouble free than what I have seen in the earlier models - and HUGELY better than the ETS in the Grand Am's.

We have had some crazy snow up here this weekend and I must say i am thoroughly impressed with this cars winter capabilities.
