What tools should I be carrying around in my car? Right now I have Vice Grips and a Standard and Philips screw driver. What else should I have? Sockets wrenches etc.

A 120 piece craftsman set is usually pretty light and will handle 99% of the stuff you'll throw at it. Toss in a cheater bar, pb blaster and clean wipes and you could quite literally change a head gasket on the side of the road if you needed to
I carry a couple socket wrenches, a socket driver, sockets for lug nuts, spark plugs, 7mm, 10mm, 13mm, 15mm, 18mm short and deep sockets, 10mm, 13mm, 15mm wrench, couple extensions, knuckles, dikes, a long funnel (will reach power steering reservoir), wire strippers, chain nose pliers, T-20 torx screwdriver, metric and standard folding allen wrench tools, electrical tape, zip ties, MAF cleaner, throttlebody cleaner, window cleaner, rag, microfiber towel, ratchet straps, adjustable wrenches, tiny and big flat head screwdrivers, a philips head screwdriver, a small c-clamp, and a $15 Craftsman 12v air compressor that just barely gets tires up to 36 psi, jumper cables, and a tire pressure gauge.
I get by alright.

Spare belt, 15mm wrench, 10mm wrench, spare spark plug wires, rags, electrical tape and a pair of needle nose vice grips. Carry this in all my cars and have yet to be stranded. Of course the jack and spare tire as well. Being a telecom tech I have enough crap riding around in my trunk that I don't need to suck up extra room and add more weight.
i carry a 30 pic socket set, a bunch of wrenches, pliers, vise grips. small sockets, 1/4 inch with a nut driver and sockets, and extensions. more odd sockets, larger sockets. and a 4 way lug wrench, and a small bottle jack.
and a ton of other crap i dont really need to have but thats where they live. like all my cars extra fluids, car wash crap, spray lubes, rags, glass cleaner. hand cleaner. that crap is one milk crate alone and its full.
so yeah my trunk is full of crap.
I carry no tools because racekar
Doing good so far. I'm pretty confident in my car as rusty as it is lol
I carry no tools. My car is clean, up (cough cough) to speed on maintenance and therefore requires no tools in the car.
If you plan to break down..pack tools. I don't plan to break down and therefore carry a AAA card for the awesome discounts and personally the times my car hasn't driven back home.. I needed transmission parts and the home garage.
Coolant.. keep your hoses, rad etc etc in good shape and coolant topped off.. no need
Oil.. you should'nt leak enough to need any. If you do...fix your leak.
Other stuff... ok so why do you need extra weight in the car? Only reason for me to see on having tools in the car would be if I didn't have storage in the toolbox.
^ This. I too have AAA so what is the need? I have all the tools I need at work or at home in the garage.
I do keep my Binary Blanket in the car
And my GTP came with a really nice leather Emergency Pack by Pontiac. It has some jumper cables, some work gloves (but no tools) a orange Emergency Poncho (would undoubtedly rip to pieces upon my trying to use it for the first time), and other things like fuses and whatnot. I would never use any of it, but it came with the car and is leather wrapped with a Pontiac Logo and velcro on the back so it stands up on the side
what if you hit something on the road and it puts a hole in the radiator hose? then you got enough coolant to ease it home
what if you hit something on the road and your oil pan gets a dent and you got a little hole? then you got enough oil to ease it home
got myself a little case of "emergency tools", as in pliers, fuse puller, fuses, jumper cables, screw driver, flashlight and high visibility jacket.
I got AAA again and threw some random sockets/wrenches/pliers in my car. I solved my own problem lol.
when theres a semi coming down the road in the other lane and a coon in the road?
doing 70 when it comes outta the ditch?
thats what i was getting at. you cant miss it unless you perfer to put your car in a ditch and risk doing more damage and you could end up with a hole in a hose from a bone
