Well, a couple days ago my GTP started making this annoying screeching sound every time I started it. It stays on as long as the engine is running whether I'm moving or parked. It sounds like it may be coming from under the hood or possibly the exhaust.

I'm clueless. Has anybody else has this problem?!

it sounds like your belts are squealing. open hood, have someone start it. watch and listen from the belt area. you may even see a pulley vibrate or wobble while its squealing. or the tentioner jumping around.

then take the belts off and inspect the pulleys, you could have a bad idler, tentioner, water pump, alt, power steering pump or a/c compressor clutch. check all the pulleys for side to side play, make sure they spin smoothly.

while the belts are off start the car to see if the noise is gone also. dont run it for to long with out belts, your water pumps not working and you'll over heat it. a few minutes is ok.

or the belt could be just shot as well, while its off flip it over groves out and bend it over your finger, look for cracks and chunks missing, if so replace it.

if the noise is still there with no belts on good chance its a blown bearing. aka new engine time.

I was told when I bought the car that the A/C was not working. Could the a/c compressor belt be the cause of that? I feel if that's it that could be making the sound.

yes the compressor clutch could be bad. but there's only one way to find out, take the belts off, and start it up. if no more noise find the bad pulley.
