They seem to have different timing cover sets. Newer being metal and older being paper and the same as series 2.

Did the timing cover not change until 2006?

I also noticed in 06+ there are no pan gaskets listed. They appear to use rtv instead.

Any harm in using the paper gasket with the newer engines?

No difference in the gasket. On teh oil pan, GM went from a rubber inlaid gasket in the 00 Bonneville L36 with aluminum pan to an engine bonding/sealant gasket in the 04 GP aluminum pans.

It's funny..I've used both. Sometimes the fel pro kit has metal...other times paper.

I ask because 06+ are less expensive than any other s2+ n/a engine from this particular wrecker.

Older timing gasket it is. No need for the conversion set.

May just be where the evap or other crap was located and how it works in the Hollander exchange that people aren't looking for that motor.
